SUMMARY:Nature and Urbanism (Domino Park)
DESCRIPTION:Professor Lauren Hudson will lead a 3-part lecture series on public urban spaces & how they shape society. \n*** \nDomino Park is proud to present a 3-part lecture series examining equity\, diversity\, & access in public spaces with urbanist & professor Lauren Hudson. Here at the park\, we think public spaces can be spaces for engagement\, continued education\, and discussion; “Nature & Urbanism” is part of an initiative to introduce more programming that helps adults learn & grow beyond the classroom. \n  \nCities have never been neutral spaces. They are in constant flux and the very embodiment of politics in action. While we’re used to seeing cities as sites of resistance and revolutionary possibility (e.g. Stonewall\, Black Lives Matter\, Anti-War protests)\, we tend to overlook the politics of the built environment itself. \nWhat makes a space natural or unnatural? And how do you know nature when you see it? These three talks will cover how we’ve created a specter called ‘nature’\, and how that creation determines who gets to use\, rest\, and belong in our cities and our public places. \n  \nMeet in the seating area next to the Fog Bridge (pier reveal). \nPresented in partnership with Think Olio: https://www.olio.rsvp/

SUMMARY:Nick Hakim / June McDoom / Evan Wright (Herbert Von King Park)
DESCRIPTION:Nick Hakim’s stunning soulful croon has been turning heads ever since he shared his first pair of EPs in 2014. His latest album Cometa showcases his mastery of tone; Hakim layers crunchy analog textures with gentle melodies and smooth harmonies to create swirling soundscapes you can get lost in. After a guest appearance at SummerStage in 2021 alongside producer Kenny Beats\, he now headlines his own show in Bed-Stuy inviting June McDoom\, a Bronx native and experimental folk singer who channels hints of soul and reggae through a vintage analog aesthetic\, and Evan Wright\, whose country-tinged indie psychedelia is of a piece with Hakim and his predilection for strange sonic textures.

SUMMARY:Mike's Young World III: NoName / Georgia Anne Muldrow / 454 (Herbert Von King Park)
DESCRIPTION:Brooklyn MC MIKE’s annual Young World festival is quickly becoming a haven for a burgeoning young\, forward-thinking community anchored by hip-hop culture. With a focus on black musicians and creatives\, the festival provides a fully accessible day of music\, visual art\, food\, clothes\, and children’s activities in Bed Stuy. Entry to the mini-festival is always free\, and the ultimate goal is to inspire the next generation of black youth to see creative professions as a viable option and create their own creative communities – thus “Young World.” For its third iteration—and second in Herbert Von King park—MIKE invites Noname\, the critically acclaimed Chicago rapper\, community organizer\, and founder of Noname Book Club\, Georgia Anne Muldrow\, and 454. More performers as well as vendors will be announced in the coming months.

SUMMARY:Core and Flexibility Training with Dodge YMCA
DESCRIPTION:Join for our new Core and Flexibility Training class with Dodge YMCA to improve strength\, tone\, and flexibility. The goal of this class is to grow your confidence\, improve your connection with your body\, and push past your perceived limits. The class is a combination of core and flexibility exercises designed to build a strong foundation of movement capacity. Classes run on Sundays\, May 7-September 24\, 10:00 AM-11:00 AM at the Pier 6 Lawn. \nParticipants are encouraged to bring their own mats; an extremely limited number will be available to borrow from Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy staff. \nAdvanced registration is required. We are now opening registration by-the-month (opens at the start of the month for all classes that month) here. \nImportant: In addition to registration\, all fitness participants are required to fill out our fitness waiver here. Once completed\, your waiver is good for all Conservancy fitness classes of the 2023 season – you only need to fill it out once! Those under 18 years of age must have a parent/guardian complete the form on their behalf. \nConfirmation emails include a link to this waiver. It must be completed before you can participate in any of our fitness programming; individuals who have not completed a waiver will not be permitted to join. Individuals may only register for one spot per class; those who book multiple spots for one class will have their excess reservations removed. \nNote there is no class on Memorial Day weekend (May 28)\, July 4 weekend (July 2)\, or Labor Day weekend (September 3). \nFor event updates and announcements\, subscribe to our email and socials (Twitter\, Facebook\, Instagram). Also check our Alerts & Event Updates page. \nThe Conservancy’s free events and programs are made possible by hundreds of supporters like you. Please consider making a donation to support our work.
