SUMMARY:Volunteer Landscaping and Cleanup at the Ridgewood Reservoir
DESCRIPTION:Join NYC H2O and the NYC Parks Department as we remove invasive plants and plant native plants at Ridgewood Reservoir!\n\n\n\nThe Ridgewood Reservoir in Highland Park is a 50+ acre natural oasis that straddles the border of Brooklyn and Queens. Built in 1859 to supply the once independent City of Brooklyn with high quality water\, it became obsolete with the addition of new reservoirs in the Catskills in the 1950’s and was decommissioned in the 1980’s. \nSince then\, nature took its course in a perfect case study of ecological succession. A lush and dense forest has grown in its two outside basins while a freshwater pond with waterfowl sits in the middle basin. This fresh water source is critical to migrating birds on the Atlantic Flyway. \nWe will meet in the parking lot on Vermont Place\, Brooklyn\, NY 11207\, across the street from the reservoir. \n. \nOctober to December 2026 \nSunday\, October 4\, 10 AM to 12 PM \nSunday\, October 25\, 10 AM to 12 PM \nSunday\, November 8\, 10 AM to 12 PM \nSunday\, December 6\, 10 AM to 12 PM \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Make Music NY
DESCRIPTION:Make Music New York is New York City’s only music festival for the people and by the people! \nMake Music New York is a unique festival of free concerts in public spaces throughout the five boroughs of New York City. All of the performances take place annually on June 21st\, the first day of summer and longest day of the year. Completely different from a typical music festival\, Make Music New York is open to anyone who wants to take part. From ten in the morning to ten at night\, every kind of musician — young and old\, amateur and professional\, of every musical persuasion — pours onto streets\, sidewalks\, parks and plazas to share their music with friends\, neighbors\, and strangers. \nThousands of amateur musicians take the opportunity to play in public spaces\, often for the biggest crowds of their lives. Professional musicians perform for new audiences\, who come out from under their headphones to hear unfamiliar groups risk-free. And everyone is invited to sing or play along and enjoy the first day of summer in a spirit of celebration. With over 1\,000 concerts each year\, Make Music New York includes a number of signature projects: “Mass Appeal Concerts\,” in which dozens of musicians band together to perform massive pieces written for a specific type of instrument; “Punk Island”; “Porch Stomp” folk festival; “Street Studios\,” and many more.
