DESCRIPTION:Do you like to sketchbook? Are you interested in starting? Join Brooklyn Bridge Park educators and other like-minded people in a sketchbooking meet-up. Each time\, we will meet at a different location in the park to concentrate on different subjects and stretch our skills. Come to one event or come to all. It’s up to you. These are informal sessions with some instruction for those who are new to the practice as well as an open exchange of ideas\, techniques\, and materials. \nThis month we will be meeting at Pier 3 Central Lawn and concentrating on spring trees\, sketching their shapes before they leaf out completely. \nWe encourage you to bring your own\, favorite sketching materials\, but we will provide some for those who don’t have. This program is intended for adults\, although older teens are welcome as well. Advanced registration is encouraged but not required. There will be 25 spots available on a first-come-first-served basis. \nAccessibility note: This workshop will take place on Pier 3\, mostly on flat\, grass-covered ground\, but there are some paved areas. Open hours are free and open to the public and will take place every Friday from April 24 to June 26\, 2026\, weather-permitting. \nFor the 2026 Open Hours season\, our Newtown Native Nursery will be open\, allowing visitors to explore (and purchase) native plants that we grow on site\, which can be a great addition for any greenspace you may have or be involved in! \nThis is a family friendly event\, kindly keep in mind that we use our green roofs as an educational resource\, we prefer that furry friends stay at home. NCA staff will be on hand to answer questions about the space\, the ecological benefits of green roofs\, and talk about our current activities around Newtown Creek! DESCRIPTION:Join retired elementary school educator and urban gardener Leslie Mireille Fiske in hands-on\, kid friendly gardening activities suitable for 2nd through 5th grade children.  The children will be exploring\, observing\, planting\, harvesting and sampling a variety of herbs\, flowers and vegetables through the spring into summer growing season. Activities will take place on the library’s roof-top demonstration garden. \nThis program is for children in 2nd-5th grade.
