SUMMARY:Outdoor Sketchbooking (Brooklyn Bridge Park)
DESCRIPTION:Do you like to sketchbook? Are you interested in starting? Join Brooklyn Bridge Park educators and other like-minded people in a sketchbooking meet-up. Each time\, we will meet at a different location in the park to concentrate on different subjects and stretch our skills. Come to one event or come to all. It’s up to you. These are informal sessions with some instruction for those who are new to the practice as well as an open exchange of ideas\, techniques\, and materials. \nThis month we will be exploring the John Street section of the park and concentrating on architecture (the NYC skyline\, the Manhattan Bridge\, etc). Meeting point will be at the Manhattan Bridge viewing area\, near the salt marsh. \nRegistration required. We encourage you to bring your own\, favorite sketching materials\, but we will provide some for those who don’t have. This program is intended for adults\, although older teens are welcome as well. Advanced registration is encouraged but not required. There will be 25 spots available on a first-come-first-served basis.

SUMMARY:Waterfront Workouts: Pilates (Brooklyn Bridge Park)
DESCRIPTION:Stretch and strengthen with free weekly Pilates classes in Brooklyn Bridge Park. This all-level one-hour fitness class is open to all ages and abilities\, led by instructors from Dodge YMCA. This is a part of Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Waterfront Workouts series\, offering free weekly workouts from May through September. \nPilates is a low-impact exercise that strengthens the body\, with particular focus on the core (abs\, back\, glutes)\,by utilizing controlled\, precise movements\, focused breathing\, and alignment. \nNo equipment is required but participants are encouraged to bring their own yoga mats or towels\, if desired\, to use on the lawn. An extremely limited number of yoga mats will be available to borrow. \nAdvance registration is highly encouraged but walk-ups welcome as capacity allows. DESCRIPTION:Glide along the water this summer and fall in our protected embayment with free public kayaking! \nPresented in partnership with Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse\, free kayaking is offered throughout the summer on Wednesday and Thursday evenings\, Saturdays\, and Sunday afternoons. All levels are welcome including first-time kayakers — life vests and all equipment provided\, as well as instruction. Children under 18 must have an adult guardian present. Kimberly’s approach invites you to reconnect with yourself through creating\, offering hands-on projects that encourage experimentation\, storytelling\, and letting go of perfection. \n. \nTHE SCHEDULE\nMONDAY\, JUNE 15: Natural Dye with Nelise Bey \nMONDAY\, JUNE 29: Sun Prints with Kimberly Lewis. Create one-of-a-kind prints using sunlight\, shadows\, and real natural materials collected from the park. Leaves\, flowers\, and found textures are arranged on light-sensitive paper to reveal soft silhouettes shaped by the sun. \nMONDAY\, JULY 13: Natural Dye with Nelise Bey \nMONDAY\, JULY 27: Summer Window Catcher with Kimberly Lewis. Create a glowing window hanging using recycled materials\, tissue paper\, and other translucent materials. No painting experience is required\, participants will tilt\, blow\, and layer inks\, allowing water and pigment to move like natural currents. \n. \nABOUT OUR PARTNERS\nNELISE BEY: Nelise is a textile artist\, natural dyer\, and printmaker living and creating in Brooklyn\, NY. Her aesthetic is colorful and pattern-filled\, a play on her Caribbean roots. Nelise works mostly with silks and other natural fibers\, dyeing and silkscreening them. Her work is tied to the earth\, and inspiration often calls when she’s outdoors hiking or foraging in Brooklyn and New York State. \nKIMBERLY LEWIS: Kimberly Lewis is a Brooklyn-based artist\, designer\, and creative disruptor who believes perfection is boring and mess is magic. Molded by her creative studies at Pratt and FIT\, she has spent 20+ years bending the edges of what creativity should look like\, guiding both adults and kids to unlearn\, reimagine\, and express themselves freely through art\, story\, and beautiful chaos.
