DESCRIPTION:Dodge YMCA fitness Zumba classes are so much fun you’ll forget that you’re burning calories. ZUMBA is a fusion of Latin and International music\, utilizing dance themes that create a dynamic\, exciting\, effective fitness program. This class features aerobic training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. Sneakers are recommended! Classes run on Mondays at 6:00 PM\, May 1 through September 25 at the Pier 3 Plaza. \n\n\n\nAdvanced registration is required. We are now opening registration by-the-month (opens at the start of the month for all classes that month) here. \nImportant: In addition to registration\, all fitness participants are required to fill out our fitness waiver here. Once completed\, your waiver is good for all Conservancy fitness classes of the 2023 season – you only need to fill it out once! Those under 18 years of age must have a parent/guardian complete the form on their behalf. \nConfirmation emails include a link to this waiver. It must be completed before you can participate in any of our fitness programming; individuals who have not completed a waiver will not be permitted to join. DESCRIPTION:Make Music New York is New York City’s only music festival for the people and by the people! \nNow in it’s 18th year\, Make Music New York is a unique festival of free concerts in public spaces throughout the five boroughs of New York City. All of the performances take place annually on June 21st\, the first day of summer and longest day of the year. Completely different from a typical music festival\, Make Music New York is open to anyone who wants to take part. From ten in the morning to ten at night\, every kind of musician — young and old\, amateur and professional\, of every musical persuasion — pours onto streets\, sidewalks\, parks and plazas to share their music with friends\, neighbors\, and strangers. \nThousands of amateur musicians take the opportunity to play in public spaces\, often for the biggest crowds of their lives. Professional musicians perform for new audiences\, who come out from under their headphones to hear unfamiliar groups risk-free. And everyone is invited to sing or play along and enjoy the first day of summer in a spirit of celebration. With over 1\,000 concerts each year\, Make Music New York includes a number of signature projects: “Mass Appeal Concerts\,” in which dozens of musicians band together to perform massive pieces written for a specific type of instrument; “Punk Island”; “Porch Stomp” folk festival; “Street Studios\,” and many more. \nSome 5\,000 musicians performed in the summer of 2019. Come take in a skyline river sunset on the 86 Kent shoreline esplanade while absorbing great musical vibes from multiple genres. \nFBIP & El Puente/CADRE present Summer Music Series 2023 Kick off *Solstice Celebration* featuring Tambor y Caña. \nTambor y Caña is a group composed of Venezuelan musicians with a long career\, dedicated to project and combine Afro-Venezuelan music with different styles of music. This band born as a percussion ensemble on May 28\, 2017\, under the initiative of Willie Quintana and Daniel Prim. After a few months\, other talented musicians have joined to this project creating a new sound and spreading to the public the different rhythms of Afro-Venezuelan Music.

DESCRIPTION:Join our teaching artist\, Kwok Kay Choey\, for a nine week series of exercise and movement. Meeting every Friday from May 5th through June 30th. Participants will learn Simplified Tai Chi 24-movement\, “Eight Pieces of Brocade” a qigong exercise\, and Tai Chi for Arthritis and for Fall Prevention. \nMr. Choey will also teach about the history\, art\, and culture behind these Tai Chi movements that date back thousands of years. Participants will form relationships with class members through activities. The series will end on June 30th with a celebration and performance for family and friends. \n\n\nKwok Kay Choey has practiced Tai Chi/Qigong for more than 50 years. He often participates in tai chi seminars in Asia. He has instructor certification in Tai Chi for Arthritis & for Fall Prevention from the Dr. Paul Lam Tai Chi for Health Institute. He practices the Yang style\, tracing tai chi’s martial arts origins while emphasizing its health benefits. He has taught at the Queensborough Community College\, Brooklyn Botanic Garden\, Brooklyn Public Library\, Teamsters Local 237 Retirees\, and senior centers\, etc. \nTai Chi (Supreme Ultimate) is a form of Chinese martial arts. It originated in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Its slow movements emphasize that one’s Yin and Yang be brought to balance. Regular practice improves balance and blood circulation. It relaxes the mind and body\, and increases the chi (internal energy).

DESCRIPTION:Join NYC H2O and ROW NY in Brooklyn to learn how to row and learn about how to protect NYC’s local aquatic ecosystems! \n*** \nRow New York was founded in 2002 based on the premise that the discipline of competitive rowing combined with rigorous academic support yields powerful returns. Their programs have impacted New Yorkers \, helping to build strong\, confident young people ready to tackle the demands of college. We’ve worked with people of all ages\, with and without physical and cognitive disabilities\, to build strength and a sense of teamwork and tenacity. \nAt Row New York\, they pull together—in the boat\, in the classroom\, as a community—to help all rowers push ahead. \nAll skill levels are invited to spend learn the fundamentals of rowing on the water with ROW NY and NYC H2O. \nPaerdegat Basin connects to the larger Jamaica Bay. As a saltwater marsh situated in Canarsie\, it plays a key role in protecting the coastal community from storm surges and erosion. \nThanks to City Council Member Mercedes Narcisse for sponsoring this community building event!

SUMMARY:Core and Flexibility Training with Dodge YMCA
DESCRIPTION:Join for our new Core and Flexibility Training class with Dodge YMCA to improve strength\, tone\, and flexibility. The goal of this class is to grow your confidence\, improve your connection with your body\, and push past your perceived limits. The class is a combination of core and flexibility exercises designed to build a strong foundation of movement capacity. Classes run on Sundays\, May 7-September 24\, 10:00 AM-11:00 AM at the Pier 6 Lawn. \nParticipants are encouraged to bring their own mats; an extremely limited number will be available to borrow from Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy staff. \nAdvanced registration is required. We are now opening registration by-the-month (opens at the start of the month for all classes that month) here. \nImportant: In addition to registration\, all fitness participants are required to fill out our fitness waiver here. Once completed\, your waiver is good for all Conservancy fitness classes of the 2023 season – you only need to fill it out once! Those under 18 years of age must have a parent/guardian complete the form on their behalf. \nConfirmation emails include a link to this waiver. It must be completed before you can participate in any of our fitness programming; individuals who have not completed a waiver will not be permitted to join. Individuals may only register for one spot per class; those who book multiple spots for one class will have their excess reservations removed. \nNote there is no class on Memorial Day weekend (May 28)\, July 4 weekend (July 2)\, or Labor Day weekend (September 3). \nFor event updates and announcements\, subscribe to our email and socials (Twitter\, Facebook\, Instagram). DESCRIPTION:Glide along the water this summer and fall!\nPresented in partnership with Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse\, free kayaking is offered throughout the summer on Wednesday and Thursday evenings\, and Saturday afternoons through September. All levels are welcome including first-time kayakers – life vests and all equipment provided\, as well as instruction. Children under 18 must have an adult guardian present. \n  \nWednesdays\, 5:00 PM-7:00 PM \nThursdays\, 5:00 PM-7:00 PM \nSaturdays\, 10:00 AM-3:00 PM \nSundays\, 12:00 PM-2:30 PM (family kayaking) \n  \nAdvanced registration required\, providing 20 minute timed slots. Free registration opens 2 weeks ahead of each date through the Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse website. Check back daily for more openings. \nHave your own boat? Launch your human-powered boats from the Pier 4 Beach.
