SUMMARY:The Battle of Brooklyn Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join Prospect Park Alliance for a free tour of the park to learn about the Battle of Brooklyn\, the first and largest battle of the American War for Independence\, on its 250th Anniversary. This one-hour tour begins and ends at Lefferts Historic House\, and takes visitors to the park’s Battle Pass to see the replica fortifications  where on August 27\, 1776\, thousands of Pennsylvania and New England soldiers fought their British and Hessian counterparts. Along the way\, attendees will learn about the battle and its aftermath from the perspective of the Africans enslaved by the Lefferts family\, soldiers who fought in what is now Prospect Park\, and the overall impact of the conflict on Flatbush and Brooklyn. Please note this tour leaves promptly at 2 pm. \nAlso enjoy our exhibit about the important and varied roles Black people played in the Battle of Brooklyn\, on view in the Lefferts yard. \nLearn More + RSVP. \n. \nDates: daily through August 27\, 2026\n\nCANCELLED! DESCRIPTION:Join NYC H2O and NOAA at the Canarsie Beach Cleanup! \n\n\n\nPlease join us along with CM Mercedes Narcisse’s office for a volunteer cleanup at Canarsie Beach in Brooklyn. \nThis once small fishing village saw its population boom after WWII and at one time was a major competitor to Coney Island. The Pier and beach remain a hotspot for fishing\, paddling and picnics. Located within the Jamaica Bay Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area\, Canarsie Beach and salt marsh also remain hotspots for marine wildlife and birds. \nThe cleanup will run from 10am to 12:00pm. This all-level one-hour fitness class is open to all ages and abilities\, led by instructors from Dodge YMCA. This is a part of Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Waterfront Workouts series\, offering free weekly workouts from May through September. \nPilates is a low-impact exercise that strengthens the body\, with particular focus on the core (abs\, back\, glutes)\,by utilizing controlled\, precise movements\, focused breathing\, and alignment. \nNo equipment is required but participants are encouraged to bring their own yoga mats or towels\, if desired\, to use on the lawn. DESCRIPTION:Join Newtown Creek Alliance as we work in up-potting\, weeding\, and nursery maintenance in our Newtown Native Greenhouse and Nursery! \n\n\n\n\nGreenhouse Gang is back! Join us May 5th as we kick off Spring with our first hands-on event! \nNCA welcomes volunteers and horticulture enthusiasts to help us expand our native nursery\, propagated from locally collected wild seed. Plants grown in our greenhouse are used to supplement our restoration projects around the Creek\, maintain the rooftop meadows at Kingsland Wildflowers\, and integrated into our Newtown Native Nursery. This is an ideal opportunity for those looking to support an attractive habitat for our local ecology. \nOur horticulturist Brenda Suchilt will be on site to help guide activities such as up-potting and plant maintenance\, as well as answer any questions you may have. \nFollowing our kick-off event\, the series will then run every third Tuesday of the month throughout the growing season. When selecting a ticket type\, please register for a specific date to volunteer with the Greenhouse Gang you are expected to join. \nBefore the event\, registrants are required to complete a liability waiver and photo consent form (Adult form here and Minor form here).
