SUMMARY:The Battle of Brooklyn Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join Prospect Park Alliance for a free tour of the park to learn about the Battle of Brooklyn\, the first and largest battle of the American War for Independence\, on its 250th Anniversary. This one-hour tour begins and ends at Lefferts Historic House\, and takes visitors to the park’s Battle Pass to see the replica fortifications  where on August 27\, 1776\, thousands of Pennsylvania and New England soldiers fought their British and Hessian counterparts. Along the way\, attendees will learn about the battle and its aftermath from the perspective of the Africans enslaved by the Lefferts family\, soldiers who fought in what is now Prospect Park\, and the overall impact of the conflict on Flatbush and Brooklyn. Please note this tour leaves promptly at 2 pm. \nAlso enjoy our exhibit about the important and varied roles Black people played in the Battle of Brooklyn\, on view in the Lefferts yard. \nLearn More + RSVP. \n. \nDates: daily through August 27\, 2026\n\nCANCELLED! DESCRIPTION:Stretch and strengthen with free weekly Pilates classes in Brooklyn Bridge Park. This all-level one-hour fitness class is open to all ages and abilities\, led by instructors from Dodge YMCA. This is a part of Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Waterfront Workouts series\, offering free weekly workouts from May through September. \nPilates is a low-impact exercise that strengthens the body\, with particular focus on the core (abs\, back\, glutes)\,by utilizing controlled\, precise movements\, focused breathing\, and alignment. \nNo equipment is required but participants are encouraged to bring their own yoga mats or towels\, if desired\, to use on the lawn. An extremely limited number of yoga mats will be available to borrow. \nAdvance registration is highly encouraged but walk-ups welcome as capacity allows. This one-hour tour begins and ends at Lefferts Historic House\, and takes visitors to the park’s Battle Pass to see the replica fortifications  where on August 27\, 1776\, thousands of Pennsylvania and New England soldiers fought their British and Hessian counterparts.
