ZUMBA is a fusion of Latin and International music\, utilizing dance themes that create a dynamic\, exciting\, effective fitness program. This class features aerobic training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. Sneakers are recommended! Classes run on Mondays at 6:00 PM\, May 1 through September 25 at the Pier 3 Plaza. \n\n\n\nAdvanced registration is required. We are now opening registration by-the-month (opens at the start of the month for all classes that month) here. \nImportant: In addition to registration\, all fitness participants are required to fill out our fitness waiver here. Once completed\, your waiver is good for all Conservancy fitness classes of the 2023 season – you only need to fill it out once! Those under 18 years of age must have a parent/guardian complete the form on their behalf. \nConfirmation emails include a link to this waiver. It must be completed before you can participate in any of our fitness programming; individuals who have not completed a waiver will not be permitted to join. They are in constant flux and the very embodiment of politics in action. While we’re used to seeing cities as sites of resistance and revolutionary possibility (e.g. Stonewall\, Black Lives Matter\, Anti-War protests)\, we tend to overlook the politics of the built environment itself. \nWhat makes a space natural or unnatural? And how do you know nature when you see it? DESCRIPTION:Join Newtown Creek Alliance and Billion Oyster Project for a fun\, hands-on series building marine habitat for oysters\, mussels\, and other marine wildlife. \nUsing a unique blend of ECOncrete and specially designed molds\, we will get our hands dirty to make a number of marine disks that will provide habitat for filter feeders to attach to and grow\, acting as reef-like structures. All materials will be provided; we ask that volunteers also wear masks (provided) when handling concrete. \n​​NCA will provide gloves\, tools\, safety vests\, and guidance on how to safely complete our tasks for the day. Before the event\, registrants are required to complete a liability waiver and photo consent form (Adult form here and Minor form here). \nThe work will take place on the Creekside portion of Kingsland Wildflowers\, and participants are also welcome to explore the Kingsland Wildflowers green roofs before or after the event. \nLocation: 520 Kingsland Ave\, Greenpoint\, Brooklyn 11222 \nPlan ahead for the event: Please wear weather-appropriate clothes\, sturdy shoes\, and bring your own water bottle and sunscreen if need be. DESCRIPTION:Join NYC Parks Stewardship\, Coney Island Beautification Project\, and artists Nora Almeida\, Iki Nakagawa\, and Willa Goettling for a coastal clean-up and cyanotyping workshop. Volunteers will participate in a beach clean-up along Kaiser Park Beach and use found materials to make cyanotypes–a form of alternative photography that uses the sunlight. This event is free and great for all ages. Come dressed in sturdy boots or shoes\, long sleeves\, long pants\, and clothing that can get dirty. Space is limited and registration is required. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a chaperone. To sign up a group of 10 or more volunteers please reach out to stewardship@parks.nyc.gov. DESCRIPTION:Join for our new Core and Flexibility Training class with Dodge YMCA to improve strength\, tone\, and flexibility. The goal of this class is to grow your confidence\, improve your connection with your body\, and push past your perceived limits. The class is a combination of core and flexibility exercises designed to build a strong foundation of movement capacity. Classes run on Sundays\, May 7-September 24\, 10:00 AM-11:00 AM at the Pier 6 Lawn. \nParticipants are encouraged to bring their own mats; an extremely limited number will be available to borrow from Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy staff. \nAdvanced registration is required. We are now opening registration by-the-month (opens at the start of the month for all classes that month) here. \nImportant: In addition to registration\, all fitness participants are required to fill out our fitness waiver here. Once completed\, your waiver is good for all Conservancy fitness classes of the 2023 season – you only need to fill it out once! Those under 18 years of age must have a parent/guardian complete the form on their behalf. \nConfirmation emails include a link to this waiver. It must be completed before you can participate in any of our fitness programming; individuals who have not completed a waiver will not be permitted to join. DESCRIPTION:Join our docents on a tour to learn about the history of the Brooklyn waterfront\, Brooklyn Bridge Park’s sustainable design\, and how the Park came to life! Waterfront Walks run every Sunday\, 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM from May 28 through October 29 (weather permitting). \nWear comfortable shoes\, as these tours traverse the beautiful park landscape! All tours meet outside Van Leeuwen at Fulton Ferry Landing (near the Pier 1 entrance) and last about an hour. \nREGISTER HERERSVP’s are encouraged but not required\, drop ins are also welcome! Registered participants will receive an email closer to the date with tour information\, meeting place location\, etc. \nAlso consider our new Sunset Waterfront Walks\, which run 6:30 PM-7:30 PM the first and third Tuesday of each month\, from June-October (weather permitting)

Natural colorants and essential oils can be added to create a custom product that suits personal values & preferences. Participants will: \n\nDiscover the benefits of vegan soap for healthy skin\nCreate personalized soap using plant-based ingredients\nEmpower themselves with self-sufficiency\nMake informed decisions about skincare products\n\n  \n  \nSaturday\, August 19th\, 4pm – 6pm \nSashiko 101: Visible Mending Techniques with Rhiannon Platt\nIn recent years\, Sashiko-style mending has made a comeback after originally being created during the Edo period of Japan to lengthen the life of kimonos. \nNow\, people are using it to give their favorite jeans or shirts a little more wear. This class will teach students the basics of this classic repair technique by perfecting our skills through patching a hole in a piece of scrap fabric. Students can then take this sampler of the technique home to use as a reference later when fixing their favorite clothes. \n  \n  \nSunday\, August 27th\, 11am – 12:30pm \nNeedle Felting with Darrin Morris\nNeedle felting is a versatile craft that can be used to make simple and whimsical items\, or very realistic creations. \nIn this class you will learn the basic skills needed to make a simple needle felted sculpture. DESCRIPTION:Glide along the water this summer and fall!\nPresented in partnership with Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse\, free kayaking is offered throughout the summer on Wednesday and Thursday evenings\, and Saturday afternoons through September. All levels are welcome including first-time kayakers – life vests and all equipment provided\, as well as instruction. Children under 18 must have an adult guardian present. \n  \nWednesdays\, 5:00 PM-7:00 PM \nThursdays\, 5:00 PM-7:00 PM \nSaturdays\, 10:00 AM-3:00 PM \nSundays\, 12:00 PM-2:30 PM (family kayaking) \n  \nAdvanced registration required\, providing 20 minute timed slots. Free registration opens 2 weeks ahead of each date through the Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse website. Check back daily for more openings. \nHave your own boat? Launch your human-powered boats from the Pier 4 Beach.
