DESCRIPTION:Join Newtown Creek Alliance as we work in up-potting\, weeding\, and nursery maintenance in our Newtown Native Greenhouse and Nursery! \n\n\n\n\nGreenhouse Gang is back! Join us May 5th as we kick off Spring with our first hands-on event! \nNCA welcomes volunteers and horticulture enthusiasts to help us expand our native nursery\, propagated from locally collected wild seed. Plants grown in our greenhouse are used to supplement our restoration projects around the Creek\, maintain the rooftop meadows at Kingsland Wildflowers\, and integrated into our Newtown Native Nursery. This is an ideal opportunity for those looking to support an attractive habitat for our local ecology. \nOur horticulturist Brenda Suchilt will be on site to help guide activities such as up-potting and plant maintenance\, as well as answer any questions you may have. \nFollowing our kick-off event\, the series will then run every third Tuesday of the month throughout the growing season. When selecting a ticket type\, please register for a specific date to volunteer with the Greenhouse Gang you are expected to join. \nBefore the event\, registrants are required to complete a liability waiver and photo consent form (Adult form here and Minor form here).

This one-hour tour begins and ends at Lefferts Historic House\, and takes visitors to the park’s Battle Pass to see the replica fortifications  where on August 27\, 1776\, thousands of Pennsylvania and New England soldiers fought their British and Hessian counterparts. Along the way\, attendees will learn about the battle and its aftermath from the perspective of the Africans enslaved by the Lefferts family\, soldiers who fought in what is now Prospect Park\, and the overall impact of the conflict on Flatbush and Brooklyn. Please note this tour leaves promptly at 2 pm. \nAlso enjoy our exhibit about the important and varied roles Black people played in the Battle of Brooklyn\, on view in the Lefferts yard. \nLearn More + RSVP. \n. \nDates: daily through September 6\, 2026\n\nCANCELLED! Tours last roughly 60-90 minutes\, starting from the entrance of Pier 1 and finishing near Pier 3. \nWaterfront Walks take place on select Sundays (10:30 AM) and Tuesdays (6:30 PM May-August and 6:00 PM in September-October) between May and October. View all upcoming dates here. \nAdvance registration is required. Please bring a mat. \nMackenzie Rawls: With a background deeply rooted in dance\, Mackenzie discovered her passion for teaching early in her career but decided to expand and diversify her offerings. Recognizing the transformative power of yoga\, she delved into its principles and philosophy\, becoming a certified instructor under the direction of Gabrielle Sulk. In and beyond the studio\, Mackenzie has organized workshops\, masterclasses\, and community events to foster creativity\, connection\, and growth within her community. Mackenzie’s impact as an educator extends far beyond the physical aspects of dance and yoga. She believes in nurturing the whole person\, helping her students develop self-confidence\, resilience\, and a sense of joy in their practice. \n\n\n
