SUMMARY:Volunteer Landscaping and Cleanup at the Ridgewood Reservoir
DESCRIPTION:Join NYC H2O and the NYC Parks Department as we remove invasive plants and plant native plants at Ridgewood Reservoir!\n\n\n\nThe Ridgewood Reservoir in Highland Park is a 50+ acre natural oasis that straddles the border of Brooklyn and Queens. Built in 1859 to supply the once independent City of Brooklyn with high quality water\, it became obsolete with the addition of new reservoirs in the Catskills in the 1950’s and was decommissioned in the 1980’s. \nSince then\, nature took its course in a perfect case study of ecological succession. A lush and dense forest has grown in its two outside basins while a freshwater pond with waterfowl sits in the middle basin. This fresh water source is critical to migrating birds on the Atlantic Flyway. \nWe will meet in the parking lot on Vermont Place\, Brooklyn\, NY 11207\, across the street from the reservoir. \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Bushwick Inlet World Migratory Bird Day Bird Walk
DESCRIPTION:Every bird counts—and your observation matters. \nJoin us in celebrating World Migratory Bird Day 2026 and be part of a global movement to protect migratory birds. This year’s theme highlights the power of community science—where everyday observations help scientists understand bird populations\, migration patterns\, and conservation needs\, including here in this. \nSaturday May 9th\, 9:30AM-10:30AM\nBushwick Inlet (Park)\n1 Franklin Street\, Brooklyn\, NY 11222\nFree registration \nThis day coincides with the Global Big Day\, the world’s largest birding event. Whether you’re a seasoned birder or just curious\, your sightings contribute to a global dataset that supports real conservation action and explore the Bushwick Inlet for the first time in over 75 years! \n What to Expect:\nWe’ll begin with a guided bird walk through Bushwick Inlet Park\, exploring local habitats and spotting migratory and resident species. Along the way\, you’ll learn how to observe\, identify\, and record birds—contributing valuable data through platforms like eBird. \nNo experience? No problem. You can participate for 5 minutes or stay the whole time—every observation helps. \n Why It Matters:\nCommunity-driven bird counts provide critical insights into species distribution\, migration timing\, and population trends. By joining\, you’re not just birdwatching—you’re helping shape conservation strategies and protect habitats worldwide. \nLast year\, over 1.7 million people participated globally\, recording more than 7\,900 species in a single day. Will we surpass 8\,000 this year? \n What to Bring: \n\nBinoculars (recommended)\nComfortable walking shoes\nCuriosity and enthusiasm\n\nMore Details \n\nAccessibility: ADA-friendly\nWho Can Join: All ages & ability levels welcome

SUMMARY:NBPA's Garden Club
DESCRIPTION: #HEYNBK Want to get your hands in the dirt? \nJoin the Garden Club this season!  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nNorth Brooklyn Parks Alliance is excited to offer three volunteer opportunities each month in these distinct parks: \n– Bushwick Inlet Park (50 Kent Ave between 11th and 12th St): a waterfront park defined by its Manhattan views and abundance of flowering pollinator plants. \n– Under the K Bridge Park (Meeker Ave and Van Dam Street): a unique 7-acre park under the BQE\, where you’ll tend to the native plant nursery\, our ecological lab for cultivating biodiversity amongst heavy industry. \n– McGolrick Park (Nassau Ave between Russell and Monitor Streets): an Olmsted-era neighborhood park with a stunning mature tree canopy. \nYou’ll work with our horticultural experts to learn about the ecological needs of each space: weeding invasive plant species\, propagating and transplanting native plants\, amending soil\, and caring for trees. \nEvents are free\, but please consider making a small donation or join our sustaining membership drive and help us build a green fund for North Brooklyn! \n. \n\n\nAPRIL 2026 \n\n\nSunday\, 4/19/2026\, 10 AM ~ Under the K Bridge Park\nSaturday\, 4/25/2026\, 10 AM ~ Bushwick Inlet Park (50 Kent)\nSunday\, 4/26/2026\, 10 AM ~ McGolrick Park \n. \n\n\n\nMAY 2026  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSunday\, 5/10/2026\, 10 AM ~ Bushwick Inlet Park (50 Kent)\nSunday\, 5/17/2026\, 10 AM ~ Under the K Bridge Park\nSunday\, 5/24/2026\, 10 AM ~ McGolrick Park \n\n\n\n\n\n\n. \n\n\n\nJUNE 2026  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSunday\, 6/14/2026\, 10 AM ~ Bushwick Inlet Park (50 Kent)\nSunday\, 6/21/2026\, 10 AM ~ Under the K Bridge Park\nSunday\, 6/28/2026\, 10 AM ~ McGolrick Park.
