SUMMARY:Greencycle Post-Holiday Swap
DESCRIPTION:Town Square’s popular Greencycle “Post-Holiday” Swap will be back right after the holidays ~ just in time for you to clear out the old to make room for the new! Or quietly give away those “unexpected” gifts. Bring them to the Greencycle Swap on Saturday\, January 6th\, 2024 (RAIN VENUE: MS 126\, Bayard St. entrance). \nJoin Town Square to recycle\, reuse and reduce! Drop off your cleaned and useable CLOTHES\, SHOES\, BOOKS\, BABY GEAR\, TOYS\, HOUSEHOLD ITEMS\, ELECTRONICS\, ETC. – and browse the selection. \n  \nSIMPLE RULES:\n• Only cleaned\, gently used and useable items please. No need to bring anything to take items.\n• Out of consideration for others\, we may limit folks to the 1 bag or the number of bags that you’ve brought to donate to the swap.\n• We do not allow taking donated items to resell. Why? Because all remaining items are donated to local homeless shelters for neighbors truly in need. \n  \nSince 2008\, Town Square has been promoting environmental consciousness at the local level through our Greencycle Swaps. We firmly believe that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure! We’re delighted to partner with the United War Veterans Council to keep +1\,500 pounds of perfectly good items out of our landfills for every Greencycle Swap.  We love helping our neighbors while benefiting our environment! \n  \nSuggested donation: $10 a family to help cover costs and support local Scouts. Town Square is a qualified 501(c)(3) not‐for‐profit institution. Your donation will be TAX DEDUCTIBLE to the full extent of the law. For more info\, please contact Town Square at 347.559.1410 or gogreen@townsquarebk.org. We gratefully thank our partners and sponsors:  CM Lincoln Restler\, CM Jennifer Gutierrez\, BBP Antonio Reynoso\, truly awesome Brooklyn Scouts Troop 26\, NYC DYCD\, NYPD 94th Precinct\, Home Life Services\, and John Ericsson M.S. 126. \n  \nAnd please stay in touch!\n* SIGN UP for Town Square’s newsletter: http://bit.ly/townsquarebk-newsletter\n* FOLLOW Town Square on Facebook\, Instagram & Twitter\n* FOLLOW Go Green Brooklyn on Facebook\, Instagram & Twitter \n* Share widely with #TOWNSQUAREBK and #GOGREENBK

SUMMARY:Beginners Biotech: Getting DNA out of Cells (Greenpoint Library)
DESCRIPTION:Age: 8-11 \nLimited capacity. Registration is required. \nJoin us for this hands-on activity where we will break open cells and separate their DNA from the rest. \nIn biotech we sometimes want to edit the instructions inside of cells to get them to make something of interest to us. DNA is the molecule that encodes these instructions inside of a cell\, so an early step in the process of changing these instructions is getting the DNA out of the cells. \nMaterials Provided: Fruit\, detergent\, salt\, distilled water\, ice cold alcohol\, narrow plastic containers\, coffee filters\, small plastic ziploc bags\, wooden skewers \n  \n  \nAccessibility \n\nDue to design of this program\, there will be aspects involving smells and fruit textures.\nWe are a 5-minute walk off the Nassau G stop. Our building entry\, elevator\, and bathroom are all ADA compliant.\nFor this workshop we will be in Eco Lab 1\, this room is brightly lit from a variety of fixtures and natural lighting.  Temperature varies.\nBeing a public space there is often overlapping noise within the building.  This workshop is geared towards kids which might include varying levels of sound depending on activity.  To reduce sensory input feel free to bring your own ear plugs or ask us if you’d like to borrow a sound filtering device.\nGrown-ups are encouraged to stay in the space to provide additional support to their child.  This may include help with motor skills or emotional support.
