This one-hour tour begins and ends at Lefferts Historic House\, and takes visitors to the park’s Battle Pass to see the replica fortifications  where on August 27\, 1776\, thousands of Pennsylvania and New England soldiers fought their British and Hessian counterparts. Along the way\, attendees will learn about the battle and its aftermath from the perspective of the Africans enslaved by the Lefferts family\, soldiers who fought in what is now Prospect Park\, and the overall impact of the conflict on Flatbush and Brooklyn. Please note this tour leaves promptly at 2 pm. \nAlso enjoy our exhibit about the important and varied roles Black people played in the Battle of Brooklyn\, on view in the Lefferts yard. \nLearn More + RSVP. \n. \nDates: daily through September 6\, 2026\n\nCANCELLED! DESCRIPTION:September 2026 to May 2027 \nMeeting Location: Audubon Center at the Boathouse\nLeader: A member of the Brooklyn Bird Club \nWhether you’re new to birding or looking to build your skills\, this introductory outing is a great way to explore Prospect Park and learn about the birds that visit throughout the year. Join a member of the Brooklyn Bird Club to learn birding basics and search for the dozens of species found in the park across all seasons. \nAll ages and experience levels are welcome. No registration is required. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. \n. \nWhat to Bring:\nBinoculars if you have them\, comfortable walking shoes\, water\, and weather-appropriate clothing. A limited number of binoculars will be available to borrow. \nPlease Note:\nPets are not permitted on this outing. Depending on attendance\, participants may be divided into smaller groups. Outings are held rain or shine unless severe weather makes conditions unsafe. \nRoute Description:\nThis outing moves at a relaxed pace with frequent stops to observe birds. Routes may vary from week to week depending on bird activity and park conditions. Participants can expect paved paths\, dirt trails\, grassy areas\, slight inclines\, and occasional steps. The group will cover approximately 1.5–2 miles.

You can help with basic tasks like collecting debris\, removing weeds\, and reorganizing garden furniture. This is a great opportunity for new and experienced gardeners looking to get involved in community gardening. \nWe’ll provide all the tools\, training\, and guidance to have a productive and safe volunteer day! Please wear closed work shoes and weather-appropriate clothing and bring water and snacks. Note some tasks will involve lifting heavy materials and extended periods of bending\, squatting\, and moving. \nThis event will be rescheduled to Sunday\, August 30 if inclement weather is in the forecast. \nFor information about group volunteering\, please contact the GreenThumb Volunteer Program at gt.volunteer@parks.nyc.gov. \nThis event is co-hosted by NYC Parks GreenThumb. DESCRIPTION:Glide along the water this summer and fall in our protected embayment with free public kayaking! \nPresented in partnership with Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse\, free kayaking is offered throughout the summer on Wednesday and Thursday evenings\, Saturdays\, and Sunday afternoons. All levels are welcome including first-time kayakers — life vests and all equipment provided\, as well as instruction. Children under 18 must have an adult guardian present. Meet at the north entrance of Pier 2\, look for the floating dock. \nAdvanced registration required\, providing 20 minute timed slots. Free registration opens 2 weeks ahead of each date through the Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse website. View all kayaking dates here. Please note that holiday weekends may be skipped; please check the schedule. \n  \nRegister here! \nDon’t see any available time slots? SUMMARY:The Battle of Brooklyn Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join Prospect Park Alliance for a free tour of the park to learn about the Battle of Brooklyn\, the first and largest battle of the American War for Independence\, on its 250th Anniversary. This one-hour tour begins and ends at Lefferts Historic House\, and takes visitors to the park’s Battle Pass to see the replica fortifications  where on August 27\, 1776\, thousands of Pennsylvania and New England soldiers fought their British and Hessian counterparts. Along the way\, attendees will learn about the battle and its aftermath from the perspective of the Africans enslaved by the Lefferts family\, soldiers who fought in what is now Prospect Park\, and the overall impact of the conflict on Flatbush and Brooklyn. Please note this tour leaves promptly at 2 pm. \nAlso enjoy our exhibit about the important and varied roles Black people played in the Battle of Brooklyn\, on view in the Lefferts yard. \nLearn More + RSVP. \n. \nDates: daily through September 6\, 2026\n\nCANCELLED!
