DESCRIPTION:These outings will start at The Audubon Center at the Boathouse. \nLeader: A member of the Brooklyn Bird Club \nWhether you’re just starting out or have already joined the birding ranks\, this introductory bird outing is for you. Join a member of the Brooklyn Bird Club to learn the basics of birding and search for the dozens of species that visit Prospect Park through all seasons. \nAll levels and ages are welcome. No registration necessary. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. \nPlease bring binoculars if you have them. A limited number of binoculars will be available to loan. \nRoute Description: This outing is at a leisurely pace with lots of stops to observe birds. A different route through the park may be taken each week. There may be steps\, slight inclines\, and grass and dirt paths with exposed roots. We will cover approximately 1.5-2 miles.

DESCRIPTION:Please join us for an afternoon of book making utilizing collage\, writing and drawing.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nHear a short history of Bushwick Inlet\, once Bushwick Creek\, now part of Bushwick Inlet Park\, along the East River on the border of Greenpoint and Williamsburg\, Brooklyn. \nWe’ll start with a 20 minute slideshow exploring aspects of its past\, including its connection to McCarren Park\, environmental changes\, its role in the Civil War\, and modern-day design and environmental challenges ahead for our vulnerable waterfront. \nThen enjoy a guided art session on making a mini 8-page accordion book with an antique paper collage cover and filling it with your own story. Antique books to use for collage\, colored pencils and watercolors to decorate and fill your book will be provided. Ideas on how to fill your book could include journaling\, poetry\, a short story\, illustration\, drawing\, collage or anything else you might imagine or want to incorporate into your design. \nFriends of Bushwick Inlet Park will provide art supplies\, but feel free to bring your own (if you have!) for this guided art project for beginners and artists of all levels. Other materials provided will include paper\, cardboard book covers\, antique books for collages\, watercolors\, colored pencils\, glue\, and other art materials. \nIf you’d like to bring your own\, we recommend: \n\nPiece of drawing\, multimedia\, or watercolor paper (at least 16″ long)\nPiece of cardboard to cut two book covers from\nDelivery box\, food box\, anything stiff. The heart of Science Baby is exploring the wonder of science through story\, repetition and play. We explore gravity\, motion\, magnets\, chemical reactions\, light\, water\, bubbles\, sound and more! \nEach child requires a ticket for entry. Tickets for this program are distributed on the day of the program on a first come\, first served basis. Ticket distribution begins when the branch opens at 10AM and continues until all tickets are distributed. Child must be present to receive a ticket. \n\n\nScience Baby is a program created by teaching artist Emma Gordon\, and is part of BPL’s First Five Years initiative which is supported by generous funding from the NY City Council as part of City’s First Readers.

DESCRIPTION:These outings will start at The Audubon Center at the Boathouse. \nLeader: A member of the Brooklyn Bird Club \nWhether you’re just starting out or have already joined the birding ranks\, this introductory bird outing is for you. Join a member of the Brooklyn Bird Club to learn the basics of birding and search for the dozens of species that visit Prospect Park through all seasons. \nAll levels and ages are welcome. No registration necessary. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. \nPlease bring binoculars if you have them. A limited number of binoculars will be available to loan. \nRoute Description: This outing is at a leisurely pace with lots of stops to observe birds. A different route through the park may be taken each week. There may be steps\, slight inclines\, and grass and dirt paths with exposed roots. We will cover approximately 1.5-2 miles.

DESCRIPTION:Love is in the air! Spend an afternoon with a loved one volunteering with gardeners of El Garden and NYC Parks GreenThumb! EL Garden in Bushwick\, Brooklyn is stewarded by dedicated gardeners in the community. They use the garden to grow food\, flowers\, and trees\, have a 3-bin composting system to recycle food scraps\, and several areas for social gatherings and events. The gardeners are excited to welcome and work with volunteers on various projects. \nParticipate in this workday by helping us build and expand raised beds\, build a platform for a rainwater harvesting system\, and transport soil throughout the garden. Volunteers will learn basic carpentry and garden maintenance skills! This is a great opportunity to learn about the garden’s history\, programming\, and membership process. \nGloves and tools will be provided.
