DESCRIPTION:Ages:  5-10 \nLet’s learn about our Moon! In this program we will be discussing Earth’s Moon phases and how it affects our planet. Children will be able to apply their knowledge by creating a Moon phase model out of paper. \nMaterials Provided: Paper\, glue\, scissors \n  \nAccessibility \n\nWe are a 5-minute walk off the Nassau G stop. Our building entry\, elevator\, and bathroom are all ADA compliant.\nFor this workshop we will be in Eco Lab 1\, this room is brightly lit from a variety of fixtures and natural lighting.  Temperature varies.\nBeing a public space there is often overlapping noise within the building.  This workshop is geared towards kids which might include varying levels of sound depending on excitement or interest of group.  To reduce sensory input feel free to bring your own ear plugs or ask us if you’d like to borrow a sound filtering device.\nGrown-ups are encouraged to stay in the space to provide additional support to their child.  This may include help with motor skills or emotional support.

SUMMARY:Seed Saving Workshop with Roots Unbound
DESCRIPTION:In our seed-saving workshop\, participants will learn how to save and store seeds from plants for future use. This can help preserve plant biodiversity and ensure a sustainable food supply. Participants can learn about different methods of seed saving\, including how to harvest\, dry\, and store seeds properly. The workshop may also cover topics like seed genetics\, crosspollination\, and germination. \nThis workshop is for those 18 years old and older. It will take place twice. Once on September 7th and once on September 28th. Registration opens 48 hours beforehand. If you register for the first workshop\, please do not register for the second to allow others to take part. \nRoots Unbound (RU) is an abolitionist grassroots organization based in Brooklyn offering nature-based programming centered around food justice\, therapeutic horticulture and ecological disinvestment to people in the NYC area with a focus on supporting and uplifting people impacted by the carceral system.

SUMMARY:Astronomy Club: Exploring the Solar System (Greenpoint Library)
DESCRIPTION:Ages:  5-10 \nThis week we will be learning about the tools that humans across time have used in order to learn about space.  What machines have we created to explore our universe?  STEM activity:  Pick a celestial body to explore and design a space probe for it.  What features does it have?  Is it big?  Is it small? \nMaterials Provided: Paper\, glue\, scissors\, recycled materials\, cardboard \n  \nAccessibility \n\nWe are a 5-minute walk off the Nassau G stop. Our building entry\, elevator\, and bathroom are all ADA compliant.\nFor this workshop we will be in Eco Lab 1\, this room is brightly lit from a variety of fixtures and natural lighting.  Temperature varies.\nBeing a public space there is often overlapping noise within the building.  This workshop is geared towards kids which might include varying levels of sound depending on excitement or interest of group.  To reduce sensory input feel free to bring your own ear plugs or ask us if you’d like to borrow a sound filtering device.\nGrown-ups are encouraged to stay in the space to provide additional support to their child.  This may include help with motor skills or emotional support.
