DESCRIPTION:These outings will start at The Audubon Center at the Boathouse. \nLeader: A member of the Brooklyn Bird Club \nWhether you’re just starting out or have already joined the birding ranks\, this introductory bird outing is for you. Join a member of the Brooklyn Bird Club to learn the basics of birding and search for the dozens of species that visit Prospect Park through all seasons. \nAll levels and ages are welcome. No registration necessary. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. \nPlease bring binoculars if you have them. A limited number of binoculars will be available to loan. \nRoute Description: This outing is at a leisurely pace with lots of stops to observe birds. A different route through the park may be taken each week. There may be steps\, slight inclines\, and grass and dirt paths with exposed roots. We will cover approximately 1.5-2 miles.

DESCRIPTION:Do you like to sketchbook? Are you interested in starting? Join Brooklyn Bridge Park educators and other like-minded people in a sketchbooking meet-up. Each time\, we will meet at a different location in the park to concentrate on different subjects and stretch our skills. Come to one event or come to all. It’s up to you. These are informal sessions with some instruction for those who are new to the practice as well as an open exchange of ideas\, techniques\, and materials. \nThis month we will be exploring the John Street section of the park and concentrating on architecture (the NYC skyline\, the Manhattan Bridge\, etc). Meeting point will be at the Manhattan Bridge viewing area\, near the salt marsh. \nRegistration required. We encourage you to bring your own\, favorite sketching materials\, but we will provide some for those who don’t have. This program is intended for adults\, although older teens are welcome as well. Advanced registration is encouraged but not required. There will be 25 spots available on a first-come-first-served basis.

DESCRIPTION:Join NCA and Sane Energy Project on this 5-mile bike tour\, showcasing the past and present of energy infrastructure along Newtown Creek. \n\n\n\n\nThis 5-mile bike tour will explore the past\, present\, and future of fossil fuel infrastructure along Newtown Creek. From the establishment of the world’s first kerosene refinery in 1854\, to the ongoing cleanup of the country’s largest terrestrial oil spill\, to the current environmental justice impacts stemming from National Grid’s 117 acre Liquified Natural Gas facility – Newtown Creek has a long and troubled history with fossil fuel production\, storage\, and pollution. We will see many of the historic and current operations along the Creek\, learn more about the hazards they present\, and discuss paths towards a cleaner energy future. \nWe encourage those joining to be fairly comfortable bicyclists – this route has adverse street conditions and frequent truck traffic. We ask that all attendees fill out a liability waiver and photo consent form prior to joining\, found here. \nPlease bring a water bottle\, snacks\, and weather-appropriate clothing. DESCRIPTION:Glide along the water this summer and fall in our protected embayment with free public kayaking! \nPresented in partnership with Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse\, free kayaking is offered throughout the summer on Wednesday and Thursday evenings\, Saturdays\, and Sunday afternoons. All levels are welcome including first-time kayakers — life vests and all equipment provided\, as well as instruction. Children under 18 must have an adult guardian present. Meet at the north entrance of Pier 2\, look for the floating dock. \nAdvanced registration required\, providing 20 minute timed slots. Free registration opens 2 weeks ahead of each date through the Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse website. View all kayaking dates here. Please note that holiday weekends may be skipped; please check the schedule. \n  \nRegister here! \nDon’t see any available time slots? DESCRIPTION:Join retired elementary school educator and urban gardener Leslie Mireille Fiske in hands-on\, kid friendly gardening activities suitable for 2nd through 5th grade children.  The children will be exploring\, observing\, planting\, harvesting and sampling a variety of herbs\, flowers and vegetables through the spring into summer growing season. Activities will take place on the library’s roof-top demonstration garden. \nThis program is for children in 2nd-5th grade.
