Join a member of the Brooklyn Bird Club to learn the basics of birding and search for the dozens of species that visit Prospect Park through all seasons. \nAll levels and ages are welcome. No registration necessary. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. \nPlease bring binoculars if you have them. A limited number of binoculars will be available to loan. \nRoute Description: This outing is at a leisurely pace with lots of stops to observe birds. A different route through the park may be taken each week. There may be steps\, slight inclines\, and grass and dirt paths with exposed roots. We will cover approximately 1.5-2 miles.

Help us to test the water quality and investigate pond samples that are filled with living organisms.  \nAnimal Encounter\, 2–3 pm: Join Alliance Naturalists in learning more about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection. This program starts promptly at 2 pm. \nWinter Wilderness Walk\, 3-4 pm: Curious about animal tracks in the snow\, how trees survive without leaves\, or how bugs stay warm? DESCRIPTION:Are you concerned about the budget cuts to community composting in NYC? Want to know more? \nJoin us for a broad overview and detailed discussion of the different nonprofits that make up the NYC Compost Project. Learn what each nonprofit does and how they work together to bring many benefits to communities. \nWe will discuss funding issues\, intersections with environmental justice\, and why community composting is critical for a green and resilient future. We will also discuss DSNY’s curbside organics brown bins and orange Smart Bins as they relate to composting in general. \nThis is a Save Our Compost coalition teach-in with 4 opportunities to attend a session in Manhattan\, Brooklyn\, Queens and/or on Zoom (which will have representatives from Staten Island and Bronx). All events will be live-streamed on the Save Our Compost instagram. DESCRIPTION:Join for Nature Storytime at the Environmental Education Center! Held at 3:00 PM on the third Thursday of every month (during Open Hours). \nLibrarians from Brooklyn Public Library Adams Street location lead for an exciting and engaging storytime session\, along with singing and rhymes. Each month they select a book to pair with the Education Center’s monthly nature theme. Stick around after to check out all the animals and activities in the room during Open Hours! Storytime is typically about a half hour long. \nWalk-ups only; we do our utmost to accommodate as many walk-ups as space allows. \nThe Environmental Education Center is still encouraging all visitors to wear a mask to help protect others.
