New versus old\, serious versus farcical\, political versus domestic… but in content and in form the plays\, of course\, are neither fully one nor the other. More importantly\, despite the time and space that separates their authors\, both plays center two impassioned women with complex desires. Desires they fight for\, and that may or may not be born exclusively out of the limitations imposed on them by their place in the world. Will this pairing open up an angle of reflection on women’s struggles and how they’ve evolved or persisted? DESCRIPTION:Please join us for an afternoon of book making utilizing collage\, writing and drawing.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\nDiscover the Past and Get Creative at Bushwick Inlet Park! \nJoin us for a brief exploration of Bushwick Inlet and the namesake park’s rich history and a creative art session inspired by its story. This area along the East River\, bordering Greenpoint and Williamsburg\, Brooklyn\, has a fascinating past. \nAfter an introductory slideshow presentation covering this area’s land use history\, evolution and environmental transformations\, we will discuss the challenges facing our modern-day waterfront and follow a guided session to create a mini 8-page accordion book with a paper collage cover which can be filled with your unique story\, collage or art. Different techniques and tips will be demonstrated for inspiration – whether you prefer journaling\, poetry\, illustration\, drawing\, or collage\, the possibilities are endless! \nArt supplies will be provided by Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park\, including antique book pages\, watercolors\, colored pencils\, glue\, and more. However\, if you’d like to bring your own materials or have your own favorite pair of scissors or pens\, the below is recommended: \n\nPaper: Drawing\, multimedia\, or watercolor paper (at least 16″ long)\nCardboard: Delivery boxes\, food boxes\, or anything stiff to make two covers (at least 2″ x 4″)\nDecorative Paper: Old book pages\, magazine clippings\, or wrapping paper\nTools: Ruler\, Scissors\, or a cutting tool (e.g.\, X-Acto knife)\nAdhesives: Paper glue\, glue stick\, or white crafting glue\nArt Supplies: Paints\, markers\, colored pencils\, or pens\n\nNo experience is necessary—this guided project welcomes adult beginners and experienced artists alike.
