DESCRIPTION:Stop by the Wyckoff Urban Farm on the third Saturday of the month to learn about what we’re growing\, get to know our farmers\, and get your hands dirty with farm projects! \nDrop by anytime between 12-3PM to volunteer alongside our farm staff to care for our space and participate in special work projects. \nTickets are not required to attend\, but it’s always helpful to RSVP so we can plan projects accordingly. \nTHINGS TO KNOW: \n\nThis is an all ages event. We welcome individuals and families but children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of their stay. Check out what’s happening during Farmhouse Family Day while you’re here!\nDress for the mess! Make sure to wear clothes that you don’t mind getting messy in and wear close toed shoes to protect your feet.\nCome Prepared: We will provide all the tools and protective gear for your projects but coming prepared with a hat\, long sleeved shirt\, sunscreen\, and bug spray is always a good idea.\nFacilities: Water fountain and public restrooms are available on-site. We recommend bringing snacks and a refillable water bottle.\nWeather: Community Work Days are rain or shine. If extreme weather is expected\, we will update this page and contact those on the RSVP list to cancel.\nVolunteer Groups: This event is intended for individuals\, families\, and small groups of 5 or fewer participants. DESCRIPTION:NBCB’s Public Paddle Series lets us do what we do best – fulfill our mission to enable public access to the waterways of New York City for our local community. Join us on Saturday August 16\, 12pm – 4pm\, for free canoe rides in our 29-foot Langley canoes. Led by trained ACA trip leaders\, participants will paddle down Newtown Creek and out toward the East River. There’s an opportunity to pause to take photos\, and enjoy the views of Manhattan\, Brooklyn\, and Queens. These trips are family friendly\, and run between 20-30 minutes throughout the day. \nNo registration is required\, the event is first come\, first serve. \nLocation: Manhattan Avenue Park\, (next to 1205 Manhattan Ave\, Brooklyn\, 11222) \nWe welcome our neighbors and members of other community organizations. Together\, let’s learn about Greenpoint’s history and its environmental challenges and successes. DESCRIPTION:No experience necessary\, join us on Penn Pier to learn the ins and outs of fishing in Jamaica Bay! Participants will also learn about fish identification\, fishing equipment and techniques\, angling ethics\, and aquatic ecology. \nThis is a FREE program! All supplies\, including rods and bait will be provided. \nEach session is limited to 15 fishing rods; families/small groups are encouraged to share a rod. \nPlease only register for one session per Friday\, to give others a chance to fish. \n  \nSession times: 2:00pm to 2:45pm | 3:00pm to 3:45pm | 4:00pm to 4:45pm \nIf a session is sold out\, email scspeducation@parks.ny.gov or call (718)-277-2420 ext 5003 to learn how to be added to the waitlist. \n  \nAdaptable fishing equipment is available\, but limited in supply per session. Specialized equipment is reserved for anybody who may need assistance holding a rod. DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to bring back our Autumn Evenings and give the community Newtown Native Nursery hours to amplify your greenspace in the Fall! \n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nCome join NCA every Friday from September 5 to October 17 to see the green roofs at Kingsland Wildflowers and explore (and purchase) plants from our Native Plant Nursery. \nThe event’s allow the public to learn about the green roofs and native plants\, as well as experiencing the Newtown Creek during the golden hour from our scenic wildflower meadows. This is a family friendly event\, kindly keep in mind that we use our green roofs as an educational resource\, we prefer that furry friends stay at home. NCA staff will be on hand to answer questions about the space\, the ecological benefits of green roofs\, and talk about our current activities around Newtown Creek! \nThe event is free and open to all. The main green roofs can be accessed via elevator\, however the nursery area is not ADA accessible (small staircase). \nCheck out the various native plants that we have been growing on site; purchases can also be made online in advance!

DESCRIPTION:These outings will start at The Audubon Center at the Boathouse. \nLeader: A member of the Brooklyn Bird Club \nWhether you’re just starting out or have already joined the birding ranks\, this introductory bird outing is for you. Join a member of the Brooklyn Bird Club to learn the basics of birding and search for the dozens of species that visit Prospect Park through all seasons. \nAll levels and ages are welcome. No registration necessary. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. \nPlease bring binoculars if you have them. A limited number of binoculars will be available to loan. \nRoute Description: This outing is at a leisurely pace with lots of stops to observe birds. A different route through the park may be taken each week. There may be steps\, slight inclines\, and grass and dirt paths with exposed roots. We will cover approximately 1.5-2 miles.
