SUMMARY:NASA's TechRise Student Challenge: Virtual Educator Workshop #2
DESCRIPTION:NASA Challenges Students to Fly Earth and Space Experiments \nNASA is calling on middle and high school students across the country to submit experiment ideas for a high-altitude balloon or rocket-powered lander test flight that\, if selected as a winner (60 winning teams!) would fly on a NASA-sponsored flight test next summer! A wide variety of resources are available to support teams through the submission process\, including two upcoming virtual educator workshops (details below) and a virtual field trip for students (Sep. 29). Winning teams\, announced in January\, will receive technical support and mentorship from Future Engineers\, who will help students learn the skills they need to turn their experiment idea into reality. They will also receive $1\,500 to build their experiment and a 3D printed flight box in which to build it.\n\n\n\nImportant Dates:\n\n· Aug. 31st: Virtual Educator Workshop #1 RSVP HERE\n· September 14th: Virtual Educator Workshop #2 RSVP HERE\n· September 29th: Virtual student field trip RSVP HERE\n· October 20th: Experiments submissions due\n\n\n\n\nAll TechRise Student Challenge info + submission guidelines can be found here: https://www.futureengineers.org/nasatechrise. SUMMARY:Climate Week Webinar 3: No Single Solution to Living with Climate Change: Understanding the Many Solutions to Building Climate Resilience
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Waterfront Alliance and the Rise to Resilience Coalition. From the increasing extreme weather events to rising sea levels\, we must tackle not only how to stop the climate crisis\, but how to become resilient and adapt to it. Join a discussion on the many viable solutions that must work hand-in-hand for New York City. There is no silver bullet\, or single solution\, to address the extreme weather challenges across the five boroughs. In this webinar\, we explore current approaches taken by the federal\, state and city governments\, including the Army Corps’s New York-New Jersey Harbor and Tributaries Study\, to prepare for extreme weather events\, sea level rise\, and urban island heat effect. We will explore the critical need for sustained advocacy and coalition-building to ensure all of the many strategies become reality and are equitable\, implementable\, and actionable. \n  \nSPEAKERS Kate Boicourt\, Director\, Climate-Resilient Coasts and Watersheds\, New York-New Jersey\, Environmental Defense Fund Pamela Pettyjohn\, Executive Director\, Coney Island Beautification Project Tyler Taba\, Senior Manager for Climate Policy\, Waterfront Alliance \n  \nMODERATOR Cortney Koenig Worrall\, President and CEO\, Waterfront Alliance
