SUMMARY:BQE Central Events
DESCRIPTION:The Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE) is an essential component of the region’s transportation network. It not only serves to connect Brooklyn with key access points in Manhattan\, Queens\, and on Staten Island\, but it also carries regional trucks and other traffic\, keeping this traffic off local Brooklyn streets. \nBQE Central is the approximately 1.5-mile City-owned section of the BQE (Interstate-278) between Atlantic Avenue and Sands Street in Brooklyn. This section includes multiple bridge structures – including the historic 0.4-mile-long “Triple Cantilever”. The BQE Central Project focuses on rehabilitating the structure to keep it safe for travelers. \nNYC DOT is proposing to rehabilitate BQE Central to address aging infrastructure\, improve safety and reliability\, and maintain this important connection for people and goods moving through Brooklyn and the region. \nThe project is preparing to enter the City Environmental Quality Review (CEQR) process. SUMMARY:Volunteer Landscaping and Cleanup at the Ridgewood Reservoir
DESCRIPTION:Join NYC H2O and the NYC Parks Department as we remove invasive plants and plant native plants at Ridgewood Reservoir!\n\n\n\nThe Ridgewood Reservoir in Highland Park is a 50+ acre natural oasis that straddles the border of Brooklyn and Queens. Built in 1859 to supply the once independent City of Brooklyn with high quality water\, it became obsolete with the addition of new reservoirs in the Catskills in the 1950’s and was decommissioned in the 1980’s. \nSince then\, nature took its course in a perfect case study of ecological succession. A lush and dense forest has grown in its two outside basins while a freshwater pond with waterfowl sits in the middle basin. This fresh water source is critical to migrating birds on the Atlantic Flyway. \nWe will meet in the parking lot on Vermont Place\, Brooklyn\, NY 11207\, across the street from the reservoir. \n. \nOctober to December 2026 \nSunday\, October 4\, 10 AM to 12 PM \nSunday\, October 25\, 10 AM to 12 PM \nSunday\, November 8\, 10 AM to 12 PM \nSunday\, December 6\, 10 AM to 12 PM \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Northside Improvement District (BID)
DESCRIPTION:The proposed Northside Improvement District (BID) in Williamsburg\, Brooklyn has scheduled upcoming public meetings to discuss the proposal\, answer questions\, and gather community feedback: \nPublic Meeting 1:\n• Date & Time: Wednesday\, October 28\, 2026\, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM\n• Location: 25 Kent Ave\, Brooklyn\, NY\n• Registration: Details and reservations are available via Eventbrite. \nPublic Meeting 2:\n• Date & Time: Saturday\, November 14\, 2026\, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM\n• Location: Bushwick Inlet Park Community Building\, Brooklyn\, NY\n• Registration: Reservations are available via Eventbrite. \nAbout the Proposal: The proposed Northside BID aims to supplement city services with localized sanitation\, streetscape management\, open street/park maintenance\, and economic development funded through property assessments \nThese are public meetings to answer questions and spread accurate information about the proposed Northside Improvement District (BID). \n\nIn October 2025\, a Steering Committee of local residents\, property owners\, and business owners released a proposal to form a Business Improvement District (BID) in North Williamsburg\, alongside a petition on whether or not this BID should be formed.\nA Business Improvement District is a government-adjacent nonprofit which reinvests funds from real estate into public space sanitation and beautification within a clearly defined district. For almost all areas of growth in New York City\, BIDs have been the mechanism to adapt to a greater number of people on the street\, both visitors and residents. There are currently 78 BIDs in NYC.\nSince the ballot’s release\, we have sent informative mailers to every address in the neighborhood\, distributed flyers\, phone banked\, hosted community happy hours\, business mixers\, and cleanup events. Our “BID office hours” have also been open for booking 5 days a week.\nThese public meetings are an additional method for spreading accurate information to the Northside. If you have not engaged with any of our other events\, tablings\, or mailings\, this is an opportunity for you to hear from our Steering Committee and Councilmember

Through the CEQR process\, NYC DOT will study the project’s potential environmental effects and provide opportunities for public input. \n. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVirtual Q&A Sessions\n\n\n\nVirtual Q&A #1\, Tuesday\, October 6\, 2026\, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Registration: bit.ly/bqecentral-oct6\nVirtual Q&A #2\, Thursday\, October 22\, 2026\, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Registration: bit.ly/bqecentral-oct22\nBQE Central Info Session\, Thursday\, October 29\, 2026\, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.\, Brooklyn Borough Hall\, 209 Joralemon St\, Brooklyn\, NY 11201\, Registration: bit.ly/bqecentral-oct29\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPop-Up Events\nNYC DOT will also host in-person pop-up events where members of the public can speak with project team members.
