DESCRIPTION:Join Prospect Park Alliance for a free tour of the park to learn about the Battle of Brooklyn\, the first and largest battle of the American War for Independence\, on its 250th Anniversary. This one-hour tour begins and ends at Lefferts Historic House\, and takes visitors to the park’s Battle Pass to see the replica fortifications  where on August 27\, 1776\, thousands of Pennsylvania and New England soldiers fought their British and Hessian counterparts. Along the way\, attendees will learn about the battle and its aftermath from the perspective of the Africans enslaved by the Lefferts family\, soldiers who fought in what is now Prospect Park\, and the overall impact of the conflict on Flatbush and Brooklyn. Please note this tour leaves promptly at 2 pm. \nAlso enjoy our exhibit about the important and varied roles Black people played in the Battle of Brooklyn\, on view in the Lefferts yard. \nLearn More + RSVP. \n. \nDates: daily through August 13\, 2026\n\nCANCELLED! Kimberly’s approach invites you to reconnect with yourself through creating\, offering hands-on projects that encourage experimentation\, storytelling\, and letting go of perfection. \n. \nTHE SCHEDULE\nMONDAY\, JUNE 15: Natural Dye with Nelise Bey \nMONDAY\, JUNE 29: Sun Prints with Kimberly Lewis. Create one-of-a-kind prints using sunlight\, shadows\, and real natural materials collected from the park. Leaves\, flowers\, and found textures are arranged on light-sensitive paper to reveal soft silhouettes shaped by the sun. \nMONDAY\, JULY 13: Natural Dye with Nelise Bey \nMONDAY\, JULY 27: Summer Window Catcher with Kimberly Lewis. Create a glowing window hanging using recycled materials\, tissue paper\, and other translucent materials. Layer color and texture in response to the summer sunlight\, sky\, and the shifting moods of summer. Each participant will walk away with a personal light and color collage. \nMONDAY\, AUGUST 10: Felt Park Pendants with Kimberly Lewis. A one-night summer camp–style making experience at Domino Park. Personalize your own felt pendant using felt shapes\, letter stickers\, glue\, and simple stitch details to build a small wearable or hangable keepsake. \nMONDAY\, AUGUST 24: Natural Dye with Nelise Bey \nMONDAY\, SEPTEMBER 14: Natural Dye with Nelise Bey \nMONDAY\, SEPTEMBER 28: River Ink Flow Prints with Kimberly Lewis. Explore the movement of color through fluid ink painting inspired by the East River. No painting experience is required\, participants will tilt\, blow\, and layer inks\, allowing water and pigment to move like natural currents. \n. \nABOUT OUR PARTNERS\nNELISE BEY: Nelise is a textile artist\, natural dyer\, and printmaker living and creating in Brooklyn\, NY. Her aesthetic is colorful and pattern-filled\, a play on her Caribbean roots. Nelise works mostly with silks and other natural fibers\, dyeing and silkscreening them. Her work is tied to the earth\, and inspiration often calls when she’s outdoors hiking or foraging in Brooklyn and New York State. \nKIMBERLY LEWIS: Kimberly Lewis is a Brooklyn-based artist\, designer\, and creative disruptor who believes perfection is boring and mess is magic. Molded by her creative studies at Pratt and FIT\, she has spent 20+ years bending the edges of what creativity should look like\, guiding both adults and kids to unlearn\, reimagine\, and express themselves freely through art\, story\, and beautiful chaos.

DESCRIPTION:Rescheduled from May 24\, 2026\nJoin author and naturalist Heather Wolf for a bird walk at the Ridgewood Reservoir. With the weather turning it’s a great time to come out and enjoy the reservoir and see some birds! 🐦🕊️ \nThe Ridgewood Reservoir in Highland Park is a 50+ acre natural oasis that straddles the border of Brooklyn and Queens. Built in 1859 to supply the once independent City of Brooklyn with high quality water\, it became obsolete with the addition of new reservoirs in the Catskills in the 1950’s and was decommissioned in the 1980’s. \nSince then\, nature took its course in a perfect case study of ecological succession. A lush and dense forest has grown in its two outside basins while a freshwater pond with waterfowl sits in the middle basin. This fresh water source is critical to migrating birds on the Atlantic Flyway. \nWe will meet in the parking lot on 58-2 Vermont Place\, Brooklyn\, NY 11207\, across the street from the reservoir. \nThis event will be in both spanish and english. \n\n\n. \nÚnase a la autora y naturalista Heather Wolf para un paseo de aves en el Ridgewood Reservoir. Estamos en la temporada alta de migración\, ¡así que es un buen momento para salir y disfrutar del embalse y ver algunas aves! 🐦🕊️ \n\n\nEl Ridgewood Reservoir en Highland Park es un oasis natural de más de 50 hectáreas que se extiende a ambos lados de la frontera de Brooklyn y Queens. Construido en 1859 para distribuir agua de alta calidad a la ciudad de Brooklyn\, una vez independiente\, se volvió obsoleto con la adición de nuevos depósitos en Catskills en la década de 1950 y fue desmantelado en la década de 1980. \nDesde el desmantelamiento\, la naturaleza siguió su curso como un ejemplo de sucesión ecológica.
