DESCRIPTION:A fourth generation beekeeper\, Andrew Cote is a pioneer in urban beekeeping. Join Andrew in front of the Domino beehives to meet the Domino bees\, learn how they contribute to the overall ecosystem of the Park and how the honey is made! \nMeet in front of the Domino beehives – the S 1st Street entrance to Domino Park. \nOther information: Andrew’s family has been working honey bees since the 1800’s. There were colonies of honey bees on our family’s dairy farm in rural Quebec situated under Andrew’s great-grandfather’s cherry trees. There\, too\, Andrew’s grandmother and her sisters cooked snails and skinned rabbits. The rabbits and bees (and eventually the snails) followed the family to the United States\, where decades later in Connecticut between calls at the firehouse\, Andrew’s father\, Norm\, a lieutenant with the Norwalk Fire Department\, would construct beehives in anticipation of the season to come. Present day\, along with his father Norm and brother Michael and helping hands from other family members as needed\, Andrew maintains beehives not only in Connecticut and New York states\, but also in all five boroughs of New York City\, including atop landmark buildings in Manhattan\, the grounds of United Nations Headquarters\, and the Queens County Farm Museum (which has tilled the same land since 1697.) Like any active beehive\, Andrew’s Honey is a family affair\, currently with three generations working together to cobble out a living through various beekeeping endeavors.

DESCRIPTION:No experience necessary\, join us on Penn Pier to learn the ins and outs of fishing in Jamaica Bay! Participants will also learn about fish identification\, fishing equipment and techniques\, angling ethics\, and aquatic ecology. \nThis is a FREE program! All supplies\, including rods and bait will be provided. \nEach session is limited to 15 fishing rods; families/small groups are encouraged to share a rod. \nPlease only register for one session per Friday\, to give others a chance to fish. \n  \nSession times: 2:00pm to 2:45pm | 3:00pm to 3:45pm | 4:00pm to 4:45pm \nIf a session is sold out\, email scspeducation@parks.ny.gov or call (718)-277-2420 ext 5003 to learn how to be added to the waitlist. \n  \nAdaptable fishing equipment is available\, but limited in supply per session. Specialized equipment is reserved for anybody who may need assistance holding a rod. The pier is approximately 0.5 miles from the Pennsylvania Avenue Parking Lot along a paved path\, you will have to walk along Hendrix Creek Road to meet up at the pier for the program\, approximately 20 minutes. We welcome individuals and families but children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of their stay. Make sure to wear clothes that you don’t mind getting messy in and wear close toed shoes to protect your feet.\nCome Prepared: We will provide all the tools and protective gear for your projects but coming prepared with a hat\, long sleeved shirt\, sunscreen\, and bug spray is always a good idea.\nFacilities: Water fountain and public restrooms are available on-site. We recommend bringing snacks and a refillable water bottle.\nWeather: Community Work Days are rain or shine. DESCRIPTION:NBCB’s Public Paddle Series lets us do what we do best – fulfill our mission to enable public access to the waterways of New York City for our local community. Join us on Saturday August 16\, 12pm – 4pm\, for free canoe rides in our 29-foot Langley canoes. Led by trained ACA trip leaders\, participants will paddle down Newtown Creek and out toward the East River. There’s an opportunity to pause to take photos\, and enjoy the views of Manhattan\, Brooklyn\, and Queens. These trips are family friendly\, and run between 20-30 minutes throughout the day. \nNo registration is required\, the event is first come\, first serve. \nLocation: Manhattan Avenue Park\, (next to 1205 Manhattan Ave\, Brooklyn\, 11222) \nWe welcome our neighbors and members of other community organizations. All supplies\, including rods and bait will be provided. \nEach session is limited to 15 fishing rods; families/small groups are encouraged to share a rod. \nPlease only register for one session per Friday\, to give others a chance to fish. \n  \nSession times: 2:00pm to 2:45pm | 3:00pm to 3:45pm | 4:00pm to 4:45pm \nIf a session is sold out\, email scspeducation@parks.ny.gov or call (718)-277-2420 ext 5003 to learn how to be added to the waitlist. \n  \nAdaptable fishing equipment is available\, but limited in supply per session. Specialized equipment is reserved for anybody who may need assistance holding a rod. All supplies\, including rods and bait will be provided. \nEach session is limited to 15 fishing rods; families/small groups are encouraged to share a rod. \nPlease only register for one session per Friday\, to give others a chance to fish. \n  \nSession times: 2:00pm to 2:45pm | 3:00pm to 3:45pm | 4:00pm to 4:45pm \nIf a session is sold out\, email scspeducation@parks.ny.gov or call (718)-277-2420 ext 5003 to learn how to be added to the waitlist. \n  \nAdaptable fishing equipment is available\, but limited in supply per session. Specialized equipment is reserved for anybody who may need assistance holding a rod. Contact us directly for more details about what is available. \nImportant information: \nThis program takes place at Penn Pier. The pier is approximately 0.5 miles from the Pennsylvania Avenue Parking Lot along a paved path\, you will have to walk along Hendrix Creek Road to meet up at the pier for the program\, approximately 20 minutes. See attached image. \nFree sport fishing clinics waive the requirement of participants to possess a fishing license or enroll in the Recreational Marine Fishing Registry (during program hours only).
