SUMMARY:Volunteer Workday at Garden of Life
DESCRIPTION:GreenThumb community gardens are developed\, led\, and cared for by dedicated volunteers who critically upkeep community gardens as public green spaces. Garden of Life is a serene\, green oasis in Bed-Stuy\, Brooklyn cared for by a few long-standing community members. The garden features 16 food-producing plots\, wheelchair-accessible pathways\, and dedicated gathering spaces. \nDuring this volunteer day\, participants will engage in meaningful\, hands-on projects\, such as building two (2) types of plant-supporting trellises and adding soil to vegetable plots. This is a great opportunity for those interested in getting involved with a community garden! Bring water\, snacks\, and comfortable\, weather-appropriate clothing. Please note that some activities may involve lifting heavy material and moving\, bending\, and squatting for long periods. \nGroups of 5 or more can sign up by contacting the volunteer coordinator at Kyleen.Sanchez@parks.nyc.gov. \nThis event is co-hosted by NYC Parks GreenThumb. We are proud to be the nation’s largest urban community gardening program\, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City. With GreenThumb’s support\, community gardens are centers of environmental justice\, ensuring that our city is fairer\, safer\, and greener for all. GreenThumb’s events are free and open to the public.
