Walt Whitman’s Song of Myself

Join Brooklyn Bridge Park and the Walt Whitman Initiative for their annual “Song of Myself” Marathon — an open public reading of Walt Whitman’s celebrated poem.

Readers volunteer to recite the 52 sections of “Song of Myself”, often personalizing their reading with an interpretation through song, dance, translation into different languages, musical accompaniment, or other original means. Readers should register in advance.

The 52 sections are performed sequentially without an intermission. Audience attendees are invited to sit on the Granite Prospect steps facing readers, while enjoying views of Manhattan Bridge, the Brooklyn Bridge and East River. Full details at brooklynbridgepark.org/event/song-of-myself.
