The comments deadline for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)’s storm risk management plan has been extended from March 7th, 2023 to March 31st, 2023.
In October 2022, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) released the Harbor and Tributary Study (HATS), a report that proposes a plan with aims to protect the NY-NJ Harbor from coastal storm risks. The $52 billion plan proposes a number of land-based and storm-surge barriers, including at the mouth of Newtown Creek. Severe mitigation measures are planned for the shoreline along the East River and Newtown Creek: storm surge gates, seawalls, floodwalls and levees.
