Join Newtown Creek Alliance and Trees New York to learn about and care for the street trees in the East Williamsburg part of the North Brooklyn Industrial Business Zone.
Meetup Location:
We will meet by the Greenstreets triangle at the intersection of Johnson Ave and Morgan Ave. From there, we’ll embark on a <1 mile walking tour through the North Brooklyn Industrial Business Zone (IBZ).
This event will include:
A walking tour led by Samuel A. Bishop II, Director of Education + Arborist from Trees New York, who will discuss the lack of trees in the IBZ, suitable locations for street trees, and challenges street trees face in an industrial area.
Following the tour, we will be tending to street trees on Morgan Ave by performing tree bed maintenance, which includes trash/weeds removal, soil amendment, and mulching. There will also be a small pruning demonstration by Trees New York to showcase the benefits of proper care for street trees by licensed Citizen Pruners.
Plan ahead for the event:
Please bring comfortable closed-toe walking shoes, a refillable water bottle, and weather-appropriate clothing (including sun protection). We will provide cold water, light snacks, gloves, vests, and tools (note: no bathrooms are on site). If you are unable to attend, we kindly request that you release your spot at least one day in advance. Before the event, registrants are required to complete a liability waiver and photo consent form.
