Tree Care And Pruning (PS 4 Paradise Garden)

In this workshop, participants will learn the basic biology of pruning, including stem structure, vascular tissue, and the CODIT (Compartmentalization of Decay In Trees) theory. They will explore the functions of pruning and the primary types of cuts, including thinning, reduction, and heading cuts. The workshop will also cover healthy and unhealthy tree structures. Participants will be introduced to the standard three-cut pruning method and the basic tools for small-scale pruning, including hand pruners, hand saws, and pole saws. Additionally, the workshop will discuss best practices for tree care during the dormant winter months, including pruning, mulching, removing invasive or problematic plants, and inspecting for major defects or diseases.
