Sustainable Sewing: Intro to Sewing Machine Basics (Greenpoint Library)

Saturday, March 18th, 2023 at 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Free

Join us for an afternoon to learn the basics and operation of a sewing machine with our Fiber Artist/Librarian Molloy Rogers.

You will walk away with an understanding of:

  • Sewing machine functions
  • Stitch settings and when to use them
  • Sewing machine presser foot functions and other accessories
  • Bobbin creation and operation
  • A project sewn by you to take home

This series will be followed in the spring and summer by the series Sustainable Sewing: Mending and Repair.

Molloy Rogers, a BPL Children’s Librarian is a maker, artist, and designer.  She learned to knit and crochet from her grandmother and taught herself to sew, spin yarn, dye fiber, and make felt. In 2012, she received the Samuel A. Almon scholarship to Penland School of Crafts, where she studied the applications of natural dyes, and the Shibori process as applied to weaving.

Registration is required for these events. Masks are highly encouraged in Brooklyn Public Library.
