Places Are Changing: Reflections on Urban Environments in Flux (BK Central Library)

Friday, April 21st, 2023 at 1:30 PM - 5:30 PM

Free

The Distance Plan invites BPL patrons to speak about the experience of environmental change in places they hold dear. As climate change accelerates, how does this global phenomenon show up in our homes, streets, and public spaces? How does the feeling of living through climate change in our immediate environment impact the way we imagine scenes of the future and relate to spaces of the past?

This project asks New Yorkers to articulate their personal experiences of ongoing environmental change in short interviews, structured around reflection on historical imagery and speculative exercises. You can drop by any time between 11 and 3 to get more information, speak with organizers, and even be interviewed. Narratives collected through the Places Are Changing project will be published on The Distance Plan.Org, a platform for cross-disciplinary discourse that spurs informed and effective action against the global climate crisis. This project is being led by writer Olivia Schwob and artist Amy Howden-Chapman.
