North Brooklyn: Rezoning The Waterfront Guided Tour

Sunday, July 31st, 2022 at 3:00 PM - 5:30 PM

$5.00

This interactive walking tour curated by the North Brooklyn Parks Alliance (NBK Parks) covers the impact of the 2005 rezoning on Williamsburg & Greenpoint’s waterfront and our local parks and open spaces.

The two-mile tour traverses North Brooklyn’s waterfront from the tip of Greenpoint to the Williamsburg Bridge. At ten stops along the route, the tour leader—NBK Parks’ Outreach & Program Coordinator Dylan Brown—will share insights into the complicated exchange of hyper development and public space. Specifically, how the interplay of these competing forces impacted the neighborhood’s development and the way you experience it today.

We will also touch on themes of environmental justice, historic preservation, grassroots advocacy, urban planning, zoning, waterfront resiliency, and public-private partnerships.

It is recommended that all tour participants wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate attire, as well as bring water and snacks. The tour path along the waterfront encounters closed sidewalks, rough terrain, and inclines. This terrain might be demanding for some people and wheelchair accessibility will likely be challenging at points.
