Meeker Avenue Plume Public Comment Period, ongoing

Friday, April 5th - Friday, May 10th

Free

In April 2024, EPA proposed a plan to protect people living and working in residential and commercial buildings at the Meeker Avenue Plume Superfund site in the Greenpoint/East Williamsburg area of Brooklyn. Groundwater and soil in the area is contaminated with chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs), including tetrachloroethylene (PCE) and trichloroethylene (TCE), which can vaporize from groundwater, travel through soil and seep into buildings through their foundations.

Public Comment Period: April 5, 2024 to May 10, 2024

***

The EPA will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, April 16 to explain the cleanup proposal for the Meeker Avenue Plume and to take public comments. The meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Lower Church in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Comments will be accepted until May 10, 2024. You can submit written comments by mail or email to Rupika Ketu, Remedial Project Manager, EPA, 290 Broadway, 18th floor, NY, NY, 10007 or ketu.rupika@epa.gov.
