Intro to Nature Journaling – Part Two – Trees – Techniques and Tips

Saturday, April 23rd, 2022 at 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM

Free

Join Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park on Zoom (again!) for an afternoon of science and art instruction with Monica!

Bushwick Inlet Park is a perfect place for Nature Journaling with its oasis of trees, gardens, and open spaces along the scenic East River. All you need is paper, a pencil or pen and a desire to observe and record nature – all skill levels welcomed!

Following a 15-minute presentation that will introduce basic tree identification tips, species found in Bushwick Inlet Park, city trees – history, facts, and ecology, we’ll continue our exploration of Nature Journaling by delving into the basics of drawing trees. We’ll look at tree shapes and the details of bark, leaves, flowers, and branches. We will discuss drawing trees throughout the seasons using pencil, ink, and watercolor. Have a tree – real or photo reference – ready to inspire you.

Minimum supplies:

Paper and pencil.
Optional: Colored Pencil, Markers, pen & ink or a small watercolor kit.
No experience is necessary.

Registration required via the link below.

Part 3 (Landscapes) and field trips are planned for later in the year for those of you who might be able to join in person – please watch for more information.

Taught by Monica Schroeder, scientific illustrator & kayaker.
