Fungal Futures Mycelium Fabrication Workshop (Bushwick Inlet Park)

FBIP in partnership with Cornell GSAPP students.
Attendees will learn about the properties of building biodegradable planters by growing mycelium in forms through a slide presentation and handouts. Then participants will engage in a hands-on workshop to build a small planter which they will take home and tend and watch the process of the mycelium growth first hand.
Part I
Saturday, February 7
1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
86 Kent Ave
Kings County, New York
*Required registration (free)
In the first session, participants will be introduced to the powerful world of mycelium and collaborate to fabricate biodegradable planters using organic waste and living fungi. Expect experimentation, conversation, and a tactile encounter with growth in real time.
The second session (April 4, 2026) brings these forms to life. Participants will plant native species, grounding material play in ecological stewardship and local restoration efforts at Bushwick Inlet Park.
No prior experience needed—just curiosity and a willingness to learn together. All backgrounds are welcome, and we strongly encourage joining both sessions on February 7 and April 4 to experience the full lifecycle of the work.
This event is facilitated by Luca Marcelli and Valeria Ramirez, organized in collaboration with Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park and BIOPOD Co.
