The National Wildlife Federation’s Resilient Schools Consortium (RiSC) is an award-winning program that educates students about climate change, climate impacts, climate justice and resilience solutions.
RiSC student teams from several Coney Island and NYC schools will come together to share their learning with the community, present podcasts of interviews with local residents, exhibit reimagined coastlines and future data/projections of coastal flooding and sea level rise in Coney Island and engage in dialogue with others on how to build a more resilient Coney Island. Students will also conduct a “blue-line” sea level rise demonstration and create science-based artworks.
Guest speakers include Pamela Pettyjohn, President of Coney Island Beautification Project. RiSC program staff and students will share the contributions that RiSC has made in their lives, schools and in the community. Program partners, American Littoral Society, New York Sea Grant, as well as NYC Office of Emergency Management will be in attendance to support the event’s activities.
