Climate Demands and Inspiring Arts (Manhattan Bridge)

The Human Impacts Institute (HII), with the support of the DUMBO Business Improvement District, will be projecting pieces of art on the Manhattan Bridge on Earth Day, April 22nd. The projection will feature works from 28 artists selected for the HII’s Creative Climate Awards from seven countries, including paintings, photos, films, and performances. The projection will be visible from the Pearl Street Triangle for two hours from 8:00pm to 10:00 pm. The event aims to raise awareness of environmental justice issues, including uplifting impacted communities and indigenous peoples, the impact of water pollution, the importance of the surrounding fauna and flora, and the human cost of pollution.

After each piece of art is projected, a white message will be displayed on the bridge, highlighting diversity of individual and collective actions that are needed to ensure a just and livable planet, including holding corporations accountable for climate impacts, divesting from fossil fuels, ensuring climate education is in school curriculums and reducing overall consumption of goods. This event is part of a larger, month-long festival, the Creative Climate Awards, organized annually by HII, which aims to inspire political and social action through the arts. This year, the festival showcases climate-inspired works that engage, educate, and inspire a “climate renaissance.”
