The New York-New Jersey Harbor & Estuary Program (HEP) and the Waterfront Alliance are excited to announce that this year’s City of Water Day will take place on Saturday, July 15, 2023. This annual celebration allows us to come together to raise awareness about the risk we all face from floods and rising seas, and champion our climate resilient shorelines and waterfront communities. For a limited number of participating organizations, HEP and the Waterfront Alliance can provide funding support to participate in this year’s City of Water Day.
This year’s theme centers on expanding the capacity of New York and New Jersey communities to address climate change—in particular communities that are disadvantaged or underserved. City of Water Day will feature stewardship organizations that are raising awareness about the risk we all face from sea level rise and climate change, and exploring ways we can build the adaptive capacity of our ecosystems and communities. By engaging the public of the benefits of habitat restoration, water infrastructure, green infrastructure, stormwater management, and other efforts that prioritize climate resilient solutions, we are collectively creating a more resilient New York and New Jersey Harbor. And like every year, we are eager to work with our partners in neighborhoods across the estuary to uplift work that advances equitable access to the waterfront and educates the next generation of climate leaders.
Curious about how to put together a City of Water Day small grant application? Then be sure to join us! Attendees will get an overview about our application process and will also get the chance to hear from previous City of Water Day award recipients on best practices for hosting a program for the first time as well as building sustainable partnerships. Join us on March 9, 2023 at 2 pm to learn more about how you can participate in this year’s City of Water Day and help our communities become resilient and involved in climate action.
