Join the NYC Parks Stewardship team to plant beachgrass (Ammophila breviligulata) by the New York Aquarium! Ammophila is the dominant coastal grass in our region, helping to build and stabilize front dunes. Because the grass primarily spreads by rhizome, we harvest bare-root plant material from the Greenbelt Native Plant Center production plots to replant into dune restoration projects. Volunteers should dress in clothes that can get dirty, close-toed shoes, and warm layers. To sign up a group of 10 or more volunteers please reach out to [email protected].
