Artist’s Talk: Community Garden Leader Photo Essay and Oral History Project

Meet Zachary Shulman, a New York City-based photographer at this free virtual artist’s talk! Since 2018, photographer Zachary Schulman has been documenting community garden leaders in New York City through portraits and interviews. Taking on even greater meaning during the pandemic, Zack’s portraits offer a New York perspective on a global experience of finding safe haven, as well as joy, community, mental health support, and fresh food, all through community gardening.

Zachary Schulman is a New York City-based photographer dedicated to crafting images that advance movements for social change and support progressive nonprofits. He’s a member of a local community garden where he co-manages the public composting program. When he’s not gardening, he can be found cooking, fermenting, or biking to the beach.
