2023 District 33 Participatory Budgeting Vote, 3/25-4/2

Saturday, March 25th, 2023 - Sunday, April 2nd, 2023

Get ready to cast your ballot for climate justice projects you would like to see implemented in District 33. NYC CM Lincoln Restler has committed $1 million of his office’s budget to fund your best ideas to tackle the climate crisis locally in an effort to achieve some of the goals outlined in the District 33 Climate Roadmap.

Vote Online at vote.pbnyc.org beginning March 25 or check out where you can cast your ballot in person at one of many convenient locations around our district.

Anyone who lives in the district, ages 11 and up can vote.

 

PROJECTS

1.   Plant Neighborhood Trees for Climate Resilience: New Street Trees Across District 33 – District-Wide: Plant $420,000 of new street trees in every District 33 neighborhood, prioritizing areas vulnerable to heat, improving air quality, & reducing stormwater runoff.

 

2.   ‘Gateway to Greenpoint’ New Public Space and Stormwater Diversion Project – Greenpoint: This $350,000 project will create a new, greener public space on Greenpoint Ave near Newtown Creek capturing nearly 1 million of stormwater annually.

 

3.   Grounds Improvement Project for Gowanus Houses Community Center – Boerum Hill: This project will overhaul landscaping around the NYCHA Gowanus Houses Community Center with reseeded lawns, new plantings, trees, and other beautification improvements for $450,000.

 

4.   Hydroponic Environmental Education Lab for Dock Street School for STEAM Studies – DUMBO: This hydroponics lab will provide hands-on tools for $175,000 to teach middle-school students about sustainability, climate change, and science

 

5.   I.S. 318 Eugenio Maria De Hostos Outdoor Atrium Improvement Project – South Williamsburg: This $500,000 project will improve vital school space via flood proofing, new trees and plants, and flexible seating for outdoor learning for middle school students.

 

6.   Spencer Street Community Garden Water Installation Project – Bedford-Stuyvesant: This project will install a dedicated water source for Spencer Street Community Garden where vegetables and fruit are grown by local residents for $350,000.

 

7.   Hydroponic Environmental Education Lab for Brooklyn Frontiers High School – Downtown Brooklyn: This hydroponics lab will provide hands-on tools to learn about sustainability, climate change, and science to inspire high schools at this Transfer School for older high school students in Downtown Brooklyn at a cost of $175,000.

 

8.   Solar Panels for P.S. 8/The Emily Warren Roebling School – Brooklyn Heights: This project will facilitate installation of solar panels at P.S. 8 elementary school for $500,000, which will reduce reliance on fossil fuels and improve air quality in Brooklyn Heights.

 

9.   Java Street Community Garden Water Installation Project – Greenpoint: This $350,000 project will install a water line for Java St. Community Garden, a green space that produces vegetables and fruit and features pollinator plants.

 

10.   Park Space Improvement: Green Redesign of Marcy Park South for Day Laborers – South Williamsburg: This project will transform an under used cement court for $500,0000 into shaded green space with seating to benefit day laborers and the greater South Williamsburg community.

Voting week is March 25 to April 2 and anyone who lives in the district, ages 11 and up can vote either online (we will share link shortly!) or in person:
