Death, Decay, and Decomposition (462 Halsey Community Garden)

Sunday, November 2nd, 2025 at 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Free

Come to 462 Halsey Community Farm to learn from Master Composter and deathworker, Pista, who will guide attendees through a discussion on death practice and cultural stories of transformations and how it all relates back to the compost pile. Attendees will then learn some basics of compost science and work with the garden’s 3-bin system to embody some of the learnings.

We live in a world where resurrection, rebirth, and transformation are not just myths and stories we share with each other, but the actual reality of the Universe we are a part of. Composting is the process of transforming dying, decomposing organic matter into new life. It is a reminder that death is not the final stage, but rather a part of a cycle to begin again.
