Green Asphalt Community Meeting

For years now – Greenpoint residents have been experiencing strong, acrid odors, loud noise, and even health impacts from Green Asphalt, an asphalt contractor in Long Island City. Despite our office meeting with the company and the Department of Environmental Conservation to push for urgent changes to reduce emissions and noise, Green Asphalt has already failed to follow through on their commitment to extend and redirect their emissions stack by June. Now it is unclear if Green Asphalt is on track to meet updated deadlines imposed by their regulating agency, the Department of Environmental Conservation, to get their act together by December.
On Tuesday, September 16 at 6:30pm at Polish & Slavic Center, 176 Java St, Brooklyn, NYC Council Member Lincoln Restler’s office is partnering with Assemblymember Emily Gallagher, Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez, Senator Kristen Gonzalez, Senator Mike Gianaris, Assemblymember Claire Valdez, and Councilmember Julie Won to host a town hall with the Department of Environmental Conservation and Green Asphalt. This is a great opportunity for neighbors to get the answers we deserve and for us all to put pressure on Green Asphalt and the Department of Environmental Conservation for immediate improvements. Please RSVP.
