Crafting with Bioplastics (Central Library)

Join us for a hands-on, drop-in crafting session using biodegradable materials!
Discover the fascinating world of bioplastics—plastics made from renewable resources like cornstarch, gelatin, and food waste. During this open craft session, you’ll explore a variety of colorful, premade bioplastics from Genspace, the world’s first community biology lab, and use them to create your own accessories, art, and useful objects. Think handmade cards, charms, necklaces, phone accessories, fidgets, and more!
Crafting examples and recipes will be provided for inspiration. No experience necessary—all ages welcome, but children under 10 should be accompanied by an adult. Materials provided while supplies last.
Genspace is the world’s first community biology lab — a place where people of all backgrounds can learn, create, and grow with the life sciences. Since 2009, they have served the greater New York area by providing hands-on STEAM education programs for youth and adults, cultural and outreach events for the public, and a membership program to support New York’s community of creatives, researchers, and entrepreneurs.
