History by the Fireside (Ft Greene Park)

Gather around the fire and learn our young nation’s history with pirates. One of the overlooked consequences of American independence was the loss of British naval protection. Pirates of the Barbary stole goods and imprisoned sailors from the United States, leading to the creation of the US Navy. June 10th celebrates the anniversary of Yusuf Karamanli signing a treaty ending the First Barbary Wars.
