Lost Bridges of Newtown Creek: Penny Bridge Cleanup

Come lend a hand to help clean up and improve this site along the Greenpoint shoreline!

As part of our Lost Bridges of Newtown Creek Series, Newtown Creek Alliance is hosting a cleanup at the site of the former Penny Bridge. We have been leading cleanups to help transform this public waterfront site since 2017. Learn more about the history of the site here.

Our goal is to improve environmental conditions at these sites, while also making them safer and more inviting as green public areas along the shore. We are looking for volunteers to help us conduct some simple and routine maintenance tasks including trash and debris removal, managing overgrown areas, and path-maintenance.

We will provide gloves, tools, safety vests, and guidance on how to safely complete our tasks for the day. Before the event, registrants are required to complete a liability waiver and photo consent form (Adult form here and Minor form here).

Meetup Location: We will be meeting at 1000 Meeker Ave in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Plan ahead for the event: Please wear weather-appropriate clothes, sturdy shoes, and bring your own water bottle and sunscreen if need be. There are no bathrooms on site. If you are unable to attend, we ask you to please release your spot at least one day in advance.
