Bat Walk at the Ridgewood Reservoir

Friday, May 19th, 2023 at 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM

Free

Join naturalist Sophie Barno to observe and learn about bats and nocturnal wildlife at Ridgewood Reservoir.

Join naturalist Sophie Barno to observe and learn about the nocturnal winged animals that come out to play and hunt after the sun sets at Highland Park. The Ridgewood Reservoir is home to an amazing variety of nighttime creatures such as chimney swifts, nighthawks, and little brown bats. Sophie will guide the group on a walk to see and hear this local wildlife and talk about the importance of conservation in New York.

There are over 1,400 species of these winged mammals worldwide. Come discover which ones live at the Reservoir as well as learn about other nocturnal animals.

The Ridgewood Reservoir, nestled in Highland Park, is a 50+ acre ecological oasis that was once a high quality water supply built by the independent City of Brooklyn in 1858. Since decommissioning, nature took its course in a perfect case study of ecological succession!
