Prospect Park Lakeshore Restoration Public Meeting

Monday, November 21st, 2022 at 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Join Prospect Park Alliance for a public meeting to kick off the restoration of the Prospect Park Lakeshore.

Through the support of the community, the Brooklyn Delegation of the New York City Council, led by the advocacy of Council Members Shahana Hanif, Crystal Hudson and Rita Joseph, allocated $1 million in funding in the current city budget, which was matched by a $1 million allocation by the Mayor, to undertake the first phase of the $20 million restoration of the Prospect Park Lakeshore.

Prospect Park is home to Brooklyn’s only Lake, and this 60-acre treasure is a valuable resource for both Brooklyn community members and wildlife. Since its creation over 150 years ago, the Lake has aged over time and is in need of a restoration to improve its environmental resilience, particularly in the face of severe storms and record rainfall, which leads to flooding of the surrounding landscapes. In addition, this project will improve safety and accessibility to the Lakeshore for park visitors, and protect sensitive wildlife habitats. This project will be a continuation of the award-winning work that was accomplished as part of Lakeside, which restored the Lakeshore from the Concert Grove to the LeFrak Center. The project will also bring additional green space to this area of the park with the transformation of Wellhouse Drive from a vehicular drive to landscaped bike and pedestrian pathways.

Prospect Park Alliance is now starting the design phase and will be creating a master plan for this project, and restoring a section of the Lakeshore, and invites you to join us for a public meeting and design kick off event, where you will learn more about the project and have an opportunity to provide insight and feedback.

RSVP today to join the meeting!
