Join the Conservancy this Thursday, October 20 for Pumpkin Sail! Clearwater and Apollonia will be docked at Brooklyn Bridge Park for an autumn celebration from 3:00-5:00 PM with support from Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy and One15 Marina! They’ll be offering deck tours and dockside programs for the community that will include free pumpkin-themed activities, music, and refreshments available free of charge (donation suggested).
Schooner Apollonia will also windship locally sourced Hudson Valley pumpkins of all sizes available for pre-order with pick up during Pumpkin Sail events here.
Folk singer and Beacon, NY resident Pete Seeger spearheaded the effort to build the sloop, which first sailed into the Hudson River in 1969 as a platform of grassroots advocacy. Voyages transporting pumpkins from Albany to New York City, coupled with riverfront autumnal celebrations became known as “Pumpkin Sail,” in 1971.
These days, they’re leaving the sail freight to Sam Merrett and Schooner Apollonia. Hudson River Sloop Clearwater remains focused on advocacy in Hudson Valley communities through direct connections that inspire lifelong stewardship of the living river. Learn more here.
