Brooklyn CB2 Trash Containerization Deadline is Today, July 31, 2026

Empire Bins are on-street sealed trash containers for larger apartment buildings and schools. These bins are assigned to specific properties. They are opened with key cards and emptied using new DSNY side-loading collection trucks. The Empire Bin registration/opt-in period for Brooklyn Community District 2 (BK2) runs from July 1 – July 31.
- ALL properties in BK2 with 31+ residential units are required to register with DSNY.
- Properties with 10-30 residential units in both BK2 and M9 can opt-into using Empire Bins.
Empire bins have already rolled out in Manhattan Community District 9.
