Join us for a weaving circle where participants will collectively weave items from discarded electronic wires. The process is accompanied by a facilitated discussion that explores the extractive origins of technologies, their lifecycles, and their afterlives through waste management and remediation. Through this collective practice, the workshop makes visible the material and ecological costs embedded in our technologies to examine how technology proliferation exacerbates inequities along race, gender, and class lines.

Join us for a digital care & data maintenance workshop. Developed in partnership with data ethicist and activist Imani Thompson, this workshop gives folks the tools to take back ownership of their digital lives. We’ll expose the data centers, energy consumption, and environmental costs hiding behind “unlimited storage”. Participants will audit their phones, move photos from Snapchat and the cloud onto a USB stick, and learn to care for their data on their own terms. The workshop closes with a scrapbooking session, printing photos and making collages as a deliberate act of reclaiming what matters most. We’ll provide USB sticks and crafting materials, but please bring your own personal devices and all necessary chords and chargers to be able to move photos onto the USB stick.

About the Facilitators:
- Antonia Simon is an environmental technologist and the director of Slow Circuits, a circular technology collective building libraries of refurbished technology within community-based organisations. Alongside the Library, she hosts weaving workshops where participants weave with ethernet cable as a medium to discuss their relationship with technology, and what they might want it to become.
- Imani Thompson is a privacy expert, tech ethicist and the founder/host of Cache Me Outside, a Brooklyn-based security culture and digital literacy event series.
