2 Evenings

Thu, Jan 22, 5:00pm to 6:30pm ~ Astronomy Night: Sidewalk Stargazing: Moon Phase:  Waxing crescent 16.55%.  A Waxing Crescent is the first Phase after the New Moon during this time the features of the moon surface can be beautifully seen. The moon is close to the sun in the sky and therefor is mostly dark. The right edge of the moon however is bright and keeps getting brighter as the days get close to the next phase which is a First Quarter with a 50% illumination of the lunar body.
Thu, Feb 5, 5:00pm to 6:30pm ~ Astronomy Night: Sidewalk Stargazing: Moon Phase:  Waning gibbous 84%.  During this phase the Moon can be seen in the early morning daylight hours on the western horizon. This is the first phase after the Full Moon occurs. It lasts roughly 7 days with the Moon’s illumination growing smaller each day until the Moon becomes a Last Quarter Moon with an illumination of 50%. The average Moon rise for this phase is between 9pm and Midnight depending on the age of the phase. The moon rises later and later each night setting after sunrise in the morning.
